Re: Summer Holidays
I recently returned from a couple of weeks in Europe, where I visited Venice, Urbino, Split, Dubrovnik, Kotor, Corfu, Taormina, Sorrento, Rome, Florence, Marseilles, Cannes and Nice. This all sound like a hectic 'if it's Tuesday it must be Belgium' type vacation, but we were on a small privately-owned British cruise ship (300 passengers). So you would have a guided tour of Split in the morning and the afternoon to yourself on ship or shore (there were a number of cultural lectures on the ship). After an excellent dinner with free beer or wine, you'd go bed and wake up in Dubrovnik. So we slept through most of the travel. I'd never been to any of these places. It was a great experience and I learned a lot. On the downside it was a tad tiring for old folks and more than a tad expensive.

Sounds like the kind of cruise I could cope with though!Montreal Wanderer wrote:I recently returned from a couple of weeks in Europe, where I visited Venice, Urbino, Split, Dubrovnik, Kotor, Corfu, Taormina, Sorrento, Rome, Florence, Marseilles, Cannes and Nice. Currently backpacking in brazil. 3 days living it up in rio and now a couple of hundred miles along the coast in Paraty. Hastily booked some place on t'internet and it turns out to be a hippy homestead under construction. Interesting but glad it's only 2 nights here.

Hope you had your anti-Zika shots! Sounds strenuous but enjoy it.LeverEnd wrote:Currently backpacking in brazil. 3 days living it up in rio and now a couple of hundred miles along the coast in Paraty. In an ironic twist of unplanned forward planning, we're holidaying in Herefordshire this summer.

I'd just like to point out that Hoboh's £1.00 pasty is already £1.70 in this place. #BlameBrexit

I hope it's not a metric pasty, or I might just let out a barely audible tut.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

At least you will avoid the anacondas LeverEnd is fighting and I'm told that in Hereford hurricanes hardly ever happen. Should be a great rest (though a bit close to Boboland).Lord Kangana wrote:In an ironic twist of unplanned forward planning, we're holidaying in Herefordshire this summer.

That's in Hertford, Hereford, and Hampshire. You need a more expansive search engine.Montreal Wanderer wrote:At least you will avoid the anacondas LeverEnd is fighting and I'm told that in Hereford hurricanes hardly ever happen. Off to Japan at daft o'clock in the morning for two weeks of cultural adventure. I'm almost more thrilled that I'll be avoiding another 2 weeks of whining, political back stabbing and scare mongering.

Re: Summer Holidays
Arrived back in rio after 4 days on Ihla Grande, a spectacular unspoilt island off the coast 150 miles down from rio. I'm moderately well traveled but this place really captivated me. Steep rainforest trails, stunning beaches and a quaint little town where I only saw 2 motor vehicles the whole time. Saturday night was a knees up on the church square with some middle aged dudes playing popular folk songs and everyone dancing, drinking and smiling. Met some great people in the hostel and I'll never forget these 4 days and hope to go back one day.
In a bar in copacabana now and there is a table of noisy people behind me producing some sort of unintelligible language. It didn't sound like portugese and it's not - I just worked out they are glaswegian.
