I hate this short-form cricket.

Cricket should last days and often have no clear conclusion. Highly capable players knocking shite out of everything in site is a poor offering.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I saw Buttler hit the record fastest 100 for an Englishman the other day in the 50 over game.

That was pretty thrilling. There is a place for it. I generally prefer tests but the shorter forms have their own art and can be compelling in a way.

You can't beat good test matches though sadly the way pitches are today sometimes tests can be dreadful.

By the way, and as has been mentioned elsewhere on here, the midlife crisis has led me to playing cricket again. Now then, very little has changed since I used to play, one thing that has though is that if the team that fields first gets the batting side all out within their allocated overs then when that side goes in to bat they get awarded the unused overs. How long's that been an actual thing? :conf:

I don't think all Leagues use the same rules for stuff like that - they never really did. I've been in Leagues where they've played that rule, ones where you get 50 overs per side regardless and others where you play 5 hour cricket (that used to be fun - Side batting first could bat if memory serves three hours, leaving side batting second 1 hour + a minimum of 20 overs.)

Cook wins the toss and puts us in to bat in perfect bowling conditions. :? #prayforsun

Same team apart from Woakes for Stokes (has a ring to it that) and we're batting first, Cook's decision.

It's Lancs v Yorks on Sunday. Pity Jimmy will be missing.

True enough :D

Actually, their lad says that he'd have had a bat too had he won the toss.

Captain Cook might be just a few short of a record total but he's going through a pretty lean spell right now. Out for 15.

The shot that he was out to was a fecking disgrace. I've no idea how he's got so many runs. All any bowler has to do is bowl well outside off stump and as sure as shite Cook will attempt to play a ball that doesn't need playing, with a flat bat, and will stick it into slip. How many times have we seen him do this? The bloke's a fecking imbecile! I wouldn't mind so much if he was attempting a square cut, or indeed any discernible attacking stroke.

Which makes the shot that he's just got himself out with all the more imbecilic.

Have a look - it's on here at 12:02, the fecking imbecile. :)

Cook's scored only once over fifty in his last ten innings (says the Guardian commentator).

Had a chuckle at this comment on the Guardian site:

“I have always imagined young royals are allowed to bat all day, while the footmen take it in turns to bowl dolly-drops and the faithful old retainer, Strawberry, fields forever.”

Just seen it. The lad steps forward initially but recovered superbly. As you say, a CRACKING catch. Fair play.

Been out this afternoon but come back to a decent 222-4. Another cracking innings from Joe Root.

310-6 at stumps is pretty decent. We had 297? all out, first test but as ever it all depends on our attack when they get in.
Cook and Compton were real let downs for top end batsmen, but Root and Bairstow pulled us out. Moen Ali going good right now.
