Strange Christmas. Wanderers apart, not much to cheer. My brother was in bed a fortnight with Covid and both me and the wife are heaving with coughs and colds right now . All the family have been affected one way or another. Never mind, there are a lot of folk worse off. At least the Whites are in good shape. :oyea:

Sorry to hear that Tango, there does seem to be a lot of coughs and heavy colds about at the moment, not sure about Covid, if I get symptoms I've more test kits from my previous job than boots probably have.

Prepper! Wife and daughter had the old heavy cough/cold so I grabbed test kits yesterday. Both came back -ve..Guess I'm just waiting on the wife passing it along, now. :-(

One of the worse things (not that there any good things) is since Christmas Day we haven't seen a soul. We've missed family for fear same thing happening. Quite a few of them are under the weather. I think I've shaken mine off, but the wife's really suffering. One of the few occasions I've been glad for mobile phones.

This year has been the quietest Christmas and new year ever I think, even quieter than the Covid days. Bugger all on telly, overpriced tat in the shops who started the ball rolling in September, and don't get me started on garbage radio.
Peaceful few days off, communication with family and a decent single malt tonight, alls well :D

It was quiet here. The wife dislocated her articificial hip in October and again November. It is completely unstable. So she is immobile in a brace until an operation scheduled for January 19. Stayed home and was in bed by 10.00 pm. 2023 was a bad year for her (and by extension me who got stuck doing everything!) so we feel 2024 can only be an improvement. I hope it all goes better for all of you as well.

Thanks. I suspect things are bound to improve. I didn't mention it but last month she found her brother has stage 4 lung cancer. Poor chap hadn't smoked for forty years. She of course cannot travel (to Winnipeg) to see him yet and so is depressed about most things. As I say, everything will improve once she is mobile.

"London Mayor calls for total ban on machetes and zombie knives"

This is all so "smack on the wrist" weak sabre-rattling. How about a total ban on those who use such things, like removing them from society with tough punishments that actually punish? Has the mayor of London actually ever seen a machete or Zombie Knife except in pictures, or will such things ever affect him personally? It's a start, granted, but it's a bit like banning anything that could be used as a weapon; You could kill somebody with a broken bottle or a golf club or cricket bat. It's the killers that should be removed, not what sort of weapon used to kill. Wake up Mr Mayor...

Bit lost here TD. Legislation isn't something the London Mayor can deliver - it needs central government to do that - all he's suggesting is they get on with it?

Operation (which turned out to be a total replacement of the artificial hip) went well and she was actually released the following day (Saturday night). Currently the physio is here and the nurse expected this pm. So all good so far.

Yes, agreed, but it's the concept of punishment not the deliverers of bans whoever they are. My point was that banning them as a threat needs more then just words. It's 2024 and three square a day and T.V isn't quite doing it for thugs with weapons any more than me talking about it. .
