Yet despite 10 years with Torys in government, the net average has been 249,000 per year. Higher than the number you quote there during Labour. In 10 years they've managed to match Labour's 13 year total.Hoboh wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 11:28 pmWorthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 11:30 am
Largest 1 year leap in net migration since 1975 - 102,000 - let's call it a floodgate - Tory 2013
Highest overall level of annual net migration ever - 2010 - 2019 - Tory
Decision to offer 10 new countries EU membership - Tory 1993
Decision to extend free movement from workers to citizens - Tory 1992
Since 2013 - Non-EU migration has risen from 113,000 net - to 214,00 net - Tories.
There's always more than one way of looking at numbers.Yep, sure is.Under Blair’s Labour government, Britain’s economic immigration policy went from a highly restrictive approach to one of the most expansive in Europe. Work permit criteria were relaxed, the number of international students was doubled, the government expanded existing low and high-skilled migrant worker schemes and launched new ones and, from 2005, initiated a new points-based immigration system. Overshadowing these important reforms was the 2004 decision to allow citizens of eight countries that were about to join the EU the immediate right to work in Britain. This decision alone resulted in one of the largest migration flows in Britain’s peacetime history.
Put into historical context, Labour’s reforms were an unprecedented policy reversal. With 2.5m foreign-born workers added to the population since 1997 and net migration averaging 200,000 per year between 1997 and 2010 – five times higher than under the previous administration government of 1990-1996 – immigration under Labour quite literally changed the face of Britain.

The EU scrubber countries doing nothing, actually encouraging the low skill and unemployed and others to leave hasn't helped, nor having Cameron the Cringe and Appeaser May in the position of PM allowing the rise of PC globalisation with many almost labour wets in their cabinets.

Re: General Chit Chat
So you don't think that kicked off in 1993 when 10 Countries were asked to apply and you don't think that free movement applying to citizens rather than workers also passed in 1993 was the start of the problem?
You still haven't addressed either the two largest single year jumps were 2013/14. Larger than any single year jump under labour so pretty much has to be a "floodgate"
Re: General Chit Chat
No because there wasn't free movement of every new EU state, it came with controls which Bliar ditched.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 11:53 amSo you don't think that kicked off in 1993 when 10 Countries were asked to apply and you don't think that free movement applying to citizens rather than workers also passed in 1993 was the start of the problem?

This Coronavirus thing, should we start to worry? Personally I do think movement from certain parts of the world should be very restricted from some countries, now, before it's too late. The last thing the NHS needs are streams of people queing up for tests.
One little snippet I read made me laugh about this.
Bloke in the US says he and his family/friends are stocked up with food and basic medicines just in case, one fellow jokingly quips, "I suppose you have the means to protect your stash from those who haven't?"
Guy fires back,"I'm in the Southern states so you bet your Ass we have the fire power".

Not sure worry's the right word, Tango, but certainly be aware. That said, I had to wash my hands in an alcohol sanitizer yesterday prior to entering a meeting in a remote Finnish town (and no, it wasn't vodka )
May the bridges I burn light your way

I agree. It would make no sense not to be aware. It's a major problem that's hinting at becoming a world wide one. That said, hysteria is no answer to anything. There are always placard wavers at the ready to join any demonstration whether or no it affects them( How many people, for instance are actually going to be affected by a third runway being built at Heathrow? I'm guessing some of them are first in line to complain or write to the editor etc, when their vacation flight to Banidorm or Tenerife is late or cancelled and don't live or work within fifty miles of Heathrow? Bottom line, if it's going to happen it will, regardless of all. Coronavirus has already proven it takes no prisoners, so not heading the warnings makes no sense at all.
Not sure if it's related to the C, but at 9-0'clock last night A& E at Bolton Hospital was absolutely heaving with reception areas crowded and queues in the corridors. The staff deserve medals as they are run off their feet full time and worthy of great praise. It all needs commons sense, but unfortunately is unlikely to get it.

Good grief!
Fire, floods, a plague of Locusts across Africa, war across the middle East and this virus.
Anybody seen four horsemen yet?

I'd laugh, except I have two daughters and a grand daughter supporting veganism. makes me wonder how I ever got to 80. Worrying.LeverEnd wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 7:13 am[tweet]https://twitter.com/peta/status/1230224 ... 19397?s=19[/tweet]

Re: General Chit Chat
Nothing wrong with being vegan though. It is a healthy diet. There is something wrong in the nonsense in that tweet that LE posted. Using this health emergency with some made up science to promote meat free diets is not sensible at all - and I'm sure your daughters and grand daughter would all say the same!TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 10:46 amI'd laugh, except I have two daughters and a grand daughter supporting veganism. makes me wonder how I ever got to 80. Re: General Chit Chat
Exactly. I've no issue with veganism either, just PETA and the bollocks they regularly spout. Actually it amuses me it's so ridiculous.

They're just trolls though. Everything they do is just to get people sharing it calling them ridiculous so they get their broader agenda shared.
They did a thing about misgendering penguins or something a few months back FFS.

Well I'd guess taking Bats and such other creatures off the menu might possibly help.LeverEnd wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 7:13 am[tweet]https://twitter.com/peta/status/1230224 ... 19397?s=19[/tweet]

I read somewhere this entire football season could be rendered null and void should it spread further and matches have to be cancelled. Good news for Arsenal and Bolton fans everywhere!

We'd probably end up with a 12 point deduction for starting it!Gooner Girl wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 10:17 pmI read somewhere this entire football season could be rendered null and void should it spread further and matches have to be cancelled. Good news for Arsenal and Bolton fans everywhere!
