I gave 8.1 on my main laptop. It's OK.

OK, in the sense that I gave it default to a front screen that looks exactly like 7 and I make absolutely no use whatsoever of those shite App tiles on the proper front page.

So I guess I'm getting about half the functionality the designers intended ... if that.

Not since Ford got rid of the class leading Grandad and replaced it with the upgrade they called Scorpio which sank without trace in about 3 years can I recall such fckg arrogance by a supplier.

10 HAS to be an improvement.

If you're on Windows 8 or 8.1 then it's probably worth 'upgrading' as it is a minor improvement. If you're on 7 and upgrade, the chances are you will regret it...a lot.

Got a chromebook during the week. Tis rather fiddly, and a bit rough around the edges, but on first go it seems rather decent for the price.

Most tech sites seem to be saying it is worth going to 10 from 7? Certainly 10 is getting loads of praise compared to 8 and 8.1.

If you do want to give it a go, there is an easy roll back feature that you can use within a month of upgrading. Haven't had time to try it out yet, so will report back.

The new Edge browser has a couple of nice features to be fair, but the sort of thing that I think would be handy, but never use most likely.

Yeah but most tech sites are staffed with tech enthusiasts. Your average punter just wants it to work without any hassle. Windows 7 does that already. Most people running 7 on a laptop will need to replace it before they stop supporting 7, so unless there is something new that you want in 10, why go through the hassle and time?

Most review sites I have read talk up the Cortana voice assistant. As I have Windows 7 on my desktop, it is a completely useless app. I certainly haven't read anything that is going to get me to install it at the moment.

AT, and others, I have a strong feeling that the roll-back facility is a once only feature. It might be worth spending a little time to find out if that's true and how it would affect you if used.

Yes, those pesky drivers! It's happened many times during the Windows series of upgrades - some more often than others. That though is the fault of the manufacturer of the device requiring the driver and not that of Microsoft. It would be wise to visit the site of each manufacturer whose driver is misbehaving and check for a Win10 version for your card/device.

I've been fighting an upgrade from Win7 Home Premium 32-bit to Win7 Professional 64-bit for ages and am still experiencing weird problems; I too am beginng to wonder why I bothered.

You're probably right Dujon, but unless they intend to completely remake Windows 10, there is no chance of me wanting to go back to it from Windows 7! Just a mo, I just saw a pig fly past the window...

I rolled back to Windows 7 this morning using the roll back feature (Start > Settings > Recovery & Update (or something like that). Took about 15 minutes and so far all seems to be working well. My files and software are still there too.

Going back to Windows Update, it is still offering me the Windows 10 upgrade, so looks like you can go back to 10 with no issues later if you want. Best of all, my touchpad works again
