Argos currently have an edge lit LED 50 inch smart Samsung TV on offer for £399. Buy it and spend the rest on a holiday. Job done, you're welcome.
Uma mesa para um, faz favor. Obrigado.

Have you ever tried to catch a bus in the pissing rain, running after it, missing it, and then pretending you didn't want to catch it in the first place?Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Have you ever tried to catch a bus in 50 degrees?ChrisC wrote:

I guarantee you'd be wetter in the 50 degrees than the pissing rain

I would be sat dry and cool in my car with the air con blasting Wouldn't catch me selling my car for no TVAbdoulaye's Twin wrote:ChrisC wrote:Have you ever tried to catch a bus in the pissing rain, running after it, missing it, and then pretending you didn't want to catch it in the first place?Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Have you ever tried to catch a bus in 50 degrees?ChrisC wrote:

Re: Technology Thread.
Thanks for all the advice, chaps.
I opted for the Samsung 6670 Smart 3D, a 2014 model on a weekend offer at Currys, reduced by £350 down to £799 and then a Samsung wireless soundbar to go with it.
Just got to put the buggering thing together now.

Re: Technology Thread.
I discovered an ace bit of software yesterday. If you torrent or have a digital library of tv/movies then read on...
Software is called Plex. It's a media server. It basically will organise your library, download meta data and DVD covers etc, making it easy to browse your collection and play. Additionally you can get an app for your ipad/android/Windows 8 device and access and view your library from anywhere. You will of course need a half decent Internet connection. You can also share with friends. It's kind of like a private Netflix

You obviously don't have a wife that watches stuff time and again. She'll even watch the same movie 3-4 times in a week
Re: Technology Thread.
fortunately apple product users are notoriously smart and wouldn't fall for such a thing... would they?
Re: Technology Thread.
last year Mac users were duped into wiping their hard drives to access mined BitCoins;
and there was the iOS 7 "waterproof" hoax which duped many people into destroying their iPhones too.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Technology Thread.
Apple's latest 'phone was released in Sydney yesterday. According to the local press people queued for days. By the time the doors were opened it seems that the line was hundreds of metres long. I don't know what drives some Apple lovers, I really don't.

The queue outside the apple store today was ridiculous. Like, laughable.

Re: Technology Thread.
Right .... I have fully functioning Smart TV .... no Sky or any other supplier, simply Freeview.
Some channels come up showing a blank screen with "data service" in the middle. The channel mummy's Chinese art thingymyjig ... Propeller TV is an example, channel 229 in this case.
Is that it ? I just can't get them as I'm a tightwad .. or is there any soft-shoe shuffle I can do and get them working ?

I'm not sure that channel is broadcasting at this time on Freeview (or at least not 24*7) - when you look on their website, they seem to have a live slot at 07:00 - 07:30 then one at 12:00 - 12:30 and finally one at 12:30 - 12:45. They don't have any other timeslots mentioned.bobo the clown wrote:Right .... I have fully functioning Smart TV .... no Sky or any other supplier, simply Freeview.

There are others do it ... One called Vintage on 242 which had programmes showing when you look on the Guide but still get that same "data service only" message.Worthy4England wrote:I'm not sure that channel is broadcasting at this time on Freeview (or at least not 24*7) - when you look on their website, they seem to have a live slot at 07:00 - 07:30 then one at 12:00 - 12:30 and finally one at 12:30 - 12:45.
