Ale
Right, you lot have a wine topic and a food topic...only one thing left really then....BEER!
If you've been to a beer festival and can remember the top brew, or have a supermarket recommendation, stick it in here...
No watered down chemical infused lager either...
British // Yank IPA, blondes are my favourites
Ilkley Mary Jane if you can gt hold of it in he supermarket now
Sierra Nevada Pale is a yank brew, top quality
Brewdog punk IPA, also had a measure of their 40% Sink the Bismark before, wowzer
Isle of Arran Blonde
Goose Island IPA
Raging Bitch
Very partial to a dark bitter as well but not stout style as that's to heavy.
All the german beers as well...excellent.
Get your recommendations in. I know a great shop in Leeds (Headingley) for buying real ale from if anyone's over this way and interested, and doesn't know about it!

Re: Ale
As much as I like the taste of Arran Blonde it used to give me bad guts, so I used to stick to Schiehallion. However the Black Isle Blonde is even better...
Their Yellowhammer and Porter are also very good.

While I was in Montana I had a pint of Moose Drool - I cannot in all honesty recommend it. The following day I rendered the outhouses of Yellowstone Park unusable for several days I would think.

Re: Ale
I like trying beers from around the world. I think I used to buy Sierra Nevada from Trader Joe's in the US, but could be wrong, I remember them having some nice ones with funny names. If I go into a pub with real ales I normally try one, then if I like it I stick with it and forget what it's called the next morning I try to go with local brews to here where possible.

Re: Ale
I too like straw coloured citrus hopped beers, but I hate Brew Dog Punk IPA - it has (to me) a very chemical aftertaste of that stuff that's used as a sugar substitute.Athers wrote:Loving this at the moment.officer_dibble wrote: Brewdog punk IPA
My favourite at the moment is Thornbridge's Kipling but it's difficult to get hold of.
Oakham's Citra is pretty good and more widespread in distribution.

Re: Ale
Best Canadian beer I've had over here (bottles, but real ale) was Mill Street's Stock Ale... I think it's a microbrewery from Toronto, so you probably don't see it much in Montreal.Montreal Wanderer wrote:While I was in Montana I had a pint of Moose Drool - I cannot in all honesty recommend it. Re: Ale
For those who live in around Bolton. There is a beer festival at Dunscar Golf Club this coming weekend. Friday/Saturday night and Sunday afternoon (normally £1 a pint to get rid of the last of the beer). As usual there will be around 20 different beers from all over the UK and the odd cider and wine if real ale is not your preferred tipple.
A really good night out. There will be a band/singer and food vans if anyone is interested.
Sales pitch over with.

Re: Ale
Do you play up at Dunscar, Malc? Problem with going up to Dunscar for a sesh is getting there and back.
Do they still do the one on the bowling green at the back of The Howcroft? That were always a proper good do!
Went to a festival up at the Barlow Institute in Edgworth a few years back. Absolutely fecking dreadful. We ended up doing one and going to the Black Bull instead.

GtE, was on the doom bar at our gaff last night, lovely stuff. My top three are probably doom bar, black sheep, and wainwright (I think it's their bitter) in ascending order. Unfortunately we don't get sheep anymore because it kept going bad in the last gallon. I can not be doing with it out of bottles though, too flat and lifeless so wine at home and beer at t'pub for me.
