^^ Thanks, it would indeed, but it's the sunlight on the sea that makes me want to catch the colours. We'll see what transpires..

Just for interest's sake, bish, what time of day did you take the photo? From the position of the sun I'm thinking evening ?thebish wrote:by all means!TANGODANCER wrote:That's a terrific photo and great scenery for a painting. Can I use it?

In the style of bobo, the clown ...
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Suppose I have to say "In the impression style of Tango".. Got the basic here and I'll put the finished one in the paint thread later. I lost a bit of the foreground and right hand edge purposely to drop the horizon and give me a bigger sky. Great subject.

My son took this image a few months ago. A storm approaching over the Blue Mountains.

Re: the Photo thread
nicely done, Tango, but if this were a competition, I think, for his bold use of colour and post-modern interpretive nuance - it's Bobo by a whisker!

interesting to choice to reframe it... your composition obeys the "rule of thirds" better than mine - in your case 2/3 sky and 1/3 land - and in that respect is an improvement, but it has the downside, i think, of losing some of the impact of one of the other compositional techniques which is the use of "leading lines"...
in the photo, the breakwater leads the eye right into the heart of the picture, whereas with the thirds perspective it doesn't do that as powerfully... which is why I chose to break the "rule of thirds" in this instance...
it just goes to show that in photography and painting there are a lot of variables to consider in composition before you even start!

Aww I didn't get in in time to use my "Tango slates Bish's composition" headline.

See, in the photo, I'm drawn towards the boats on the left, some of which are spotlit by the sun, and they're pretty much framed by the breakwater.thebish wrote:as i said - nice job!TANGODANCER wrote:Suppose I have to say "In the impression style of Tango".. In the painting, I suspect in part because of the change of perspective, I'm a bit more stuck on where I should focus...
