Terrible turn of events.
Unfortunatly I fear its too late to ban guns in America, as everyone over there allready has at least one each.
Sympathy to all the parents whose children didnt make it home.

I think the weapon used was a .22 rifle which were common in England when I lived there (admittedly long ago). America has unquestionably taken the right to bear arms too far although I don't think that can be the main cause of this and other similar lunacies. Another appalling tragedy...

I'd be surprised if there was just a 0.22 involved...

Right to bear arms isn't a "cause", but it might well give the means and the mentality...

Not a lot of stopping power I agree. The suspect had killed his brother elsewhere and went to the school and killed his mother, a teacher. Regarding weapons the BBC says:
According to US reports, the gunman's mother was a teacher found among the dead at the school. The Associated Press said his brother was being held by police.

The attacker was dressed in black and wearing a bullet-proof vest during the attack, and reportedly used a .223-calibre rifle. Other weapons are also said to have been recovered.
I'm not sure what a .223 calibre rifle is, tbh.

Edit: So I looked it up:
The .223 Remington is a sporting cartridge with almost the same external dimensions as the 5.56×45mm NATO military cartridge. The name is commonly pronounced either two-two-three or two-twenty-three. It is loaded with a 0.224-inch (5.7 mm) diameter jacketed bullet, with weights ranging from 40 to 90 grains (2.6 to 5.8 g), though the most common loading by far is 55 grains (3.6 g). When loaded with a bullet that expands, tumbles, or fragments in tissue, this cartridge is capable of delivering devastating terminal performance.
Well, it's not much larger than a .22 but weight and dum-dum potential affect it.

0.223 would do the job.

I give the dickheads of the NRA 24 hours to apear on the scene, trampling over everyones feelings and claiming death by guns has nothing to do with guns.

Hells bells I just read this!!!!
The light weight, accuracy and long range of the .223 cartridge make it ideal for self defense and military rifles.
Sales of AR-15-style rifles have spiked in the United States since the September 11 terrorist attacks. Gun owners have bought millions of them in recent years over fears that new gun regulations will make them harder purchase.
As many as 30 percent of the nation's gun owners have an AR-15 or similar semiautomatic rifle. The vast majority are chambered in the .223 ammunition.

There is a stat that in the same period of time America has suffered 22 school shootings, the entire rest of the world suffered 14.

Definitely seems an American problem. And I don't think it's a stretch to say their gun laws aren't helping!

I know their gun laws make them easily available but there's nothing to stop people doing this over here with legal weapons, or is due to the population size ? More people more nut jobs ? Even if you look at Northern Ireland, all the guns that are used by paramilitaries are all illegal but there hasn't been a gun shooting like this.
