It's like when anything happens, e.g. the Tsunami - it was Japanese news, but I guarantee that pick a village anywhere in the world and they'd link some local aspect to it - "Teenager killed in tsunami was once taught to play guitar by Mrs Rogers" - but it doesn't make it local news. Local news is when local stuff happens to local people in the locality. If it happens in Kenya it's Kenyan news. That's why it's nuts.
so the NZ-England cricket stories should be located in the World Sport section?

as for finding a local connection to anything that happens anywhere... the Welsh "Western Mail" is the absolute master in this regard - utter genius!! :D
It was in the Western Mail, I think, that they reported on the front page when we first sent troops into Afgahnistan in the war on turrer, and the connection was because some Welsh local's distant relation had served in whatever regiment it was that went in first, and the fact this local owned an Afghan hound. As you say, genius.

"Wannabe model gets giant 36DD boob job- courtesy of the tax-payer." The Sun today.

Ignoring the rest, this, from the girl is, a worrying comment from a 19 year old:

“My new boobs have changed my life, now I want to be the new Katie Price.”
Despite earning just £9,000-a-year in telesales, Josie has made several trips from her Yorkshire home to get used to the celebrity lifestyle in London nightspots. She has also had chocolate brown highlights in her hair to copy busty Katie, begun a collection of Louis Vuitton handbags — and ordered a chihuahua puppy.

Wow, a guaranteed path to glory. Sad reflection on the celebrity culture and its affect on kids.

Atheton's in Wigan, Magnus. And I fail to see how this terribly sad story reflects on an area's standing.

Yes I know but week after week there is this sort of story coming out, sometimes even daily. People would not need to have 4 nasty dogs unless they felt threatened, by what I do not know. I admit Atherton is closer to Wigan than Bolton but my real point is that it is a tragic story that has been wrongly had Bolton's name put on it. People are not going to think good things of Bolton if every week a story like this or one saying baby girl found dead in bush in Lostock are going round.

Dan. You're eighteen, don't live anywhere near Bolton and don't know anything about it except what you read in isolated newspaper headlines. It's our town. Leave it out will you.

I think that might be somewhat related to my point.

I understand, because I lived in Horwich only till I was 8 I therefore have less of a knowledge then most people on here of Bolton as a place. I am fine with that.

On t'Beeb website today under the headline Easy Riders, they pose this sticky question: How did the Netherlands become a cycling utopia?

:conf: Because, it's flat. Is that too trite an answer. Muppets.

Today's stunner...

"Buried bodies house pair 'murdered'"

well fancy that, and here's me thinking that maybe they'd just had enough of the steadily escalating cost of funerals and had decided to do a bit of do-it-yourself burial in their backgarden.

^ my colleagues at work have decided that the good people of Ashover have attempted to appease the Gods by feeding bread to the hole, hence the empty bread basket. Opinion is divided as to whether there are spuds in the sack and if so were they the next sacrificial victims?

A good one today...

"Frozen sperm fight ends in victory"

I was expecting a draw, what with both of them being too cold to battle effectively.
