First up... I looked at some property prices int tinternetweb thing today and di you know if you had approximately the amount of money in my back pocket times ten thousand then you could get these properties right now:
Three tiles on the kitchen floor of a one bedroom apartment in Kensington London.
Half a toilet with shower in the top residential area of Hong Kong.
A shower stall and a few square feet in a ryokan in central Tokyo.
A bathroom with walk in wardrobe in Malibu California
A terraced house in Manchester
A detached house with olive grove on a Greek island
An entire island with houses (three of) off the coast of Alaska.
Nothing at all in North Korea.

How many islands make up the "British Isles" ?

This is not an exercise in getting delicate bout what constitutes the British Isles ... don't go all Irish Republican on me. The definition of an island is a piece of land permanently and clearly above the water line at high tide, such that a person could stay, safely, on it if they should want.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I have no idea, but my initial guess is somewhat lower than bish's and would lie in the 1,200 range.

Obviously excluding tidal jobbies like St Mick's Mount.

I actually started to count them...
Britain
Ireland
Skye
I of Man
Calf of Man
Rathlin
Rockall
St Mary's
Harris/Lewis
Lundy
Mainland
...
(iow, holyhead, puffin island, eigg, colonsay, raasay, tioram na...) hang on, what about islands that have bridge connections? That'll be Skye out of the equation then.

there are about 130 inhabited ones - but bobo's definition would also include tons of uninhabited islands - tiny hebridean ones and islands in lakes and such....

Oops edited before seeing yours. Is Skye an island as it's bridged?

With the guidelines given by the clown, then yes, Skye counts.

yes - a bridge is not counted as "land"...

I shall reveal all tomorrow.

Try not to google it.

Here is another little known fact... I've just been recalled by wife over tannoy. Similar to boat number six your time is up. Me and dog are retreating with tails well and truly recumbent in heraldic terms. But I will be back. Tomorrow.
