18 years younger than me - makes you think.

showbiz people die all time, but ive never been so genuinely upset. he'll always be iconic to me.
...its also the realisation that there will never be anymore Soprano's, ever!
rip big T. "you never see it coming". he'll have been glad to die in the 'motherland' tho!

Re: R.i.p tony s
I do have a telly, yes. But nobody up there ( ^ ) said anything about a telly; somebody mentioned showbusiness, but I was assuming he was a singer like Tony Bennett singing That's Amore or something. When I googled Tony S I just got a list of spectacularly unknown bods:Bruce Rioja wrote:He's Mr Benn's cohort. Do you not have a telly?Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Who is Tony S?
Tony Stark
Tony Scott
Tony Soprano
Tony Shalhoub
Tony Stewart
Tony Siragusa
They could all have died and I'd be none the wiser.
So was he in the same programme as Mr Benn?
More to the point when did Mr Ed die?

but tony stark is a fictional character off a marvel (?) comic, thats had 2-3 films made recently.
tony scott recently fell off a bridge and died... he directed a coupla big films (he did that one with will smith and gene hackman thats never off the telly).
sporano is the revilvant person to this thread.. everyone knows what the sporanos were. its probably the reason why everyone owns a dvd player.
tony shaloub is that obessive compulsive Monk detective that's never off the telly.
tony stewart sounds racecar driver-ery , i think i'm right.
tony siragusa played for the Ravens and was even in the sopranos too.
0/6 is pretty bad.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

A blokes just died, you don’t know who he is? thats fine, so have some respect and say nowt? its an r.i.p. thread, for someone who meant a lot to millions.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Charming.General Mannerheim wrote:you're a dick

Besides that, anyone could decipher who the thread is about from the above; funny how you picked up on ‘showbiz’ but not on ‘Sopranos’ in the line below? you just want to antagonise – which is how i came to that observation.

I wasn't trying to antagonise anyone. I genuinely had no idea who Tony S referred to.General Mannerheim wrote:A blokes just died, you don’t know who he is? thats fine, so have some respect and say nowt? its an r.i.p. thread, for someone who meant a lot to millions.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Charming.General Mannerheim wrote:you're a dick

Re: R.i.p tony s
James Gandolfini found the best role of his life as Tony Soprano, and was magnificent, episode after episode. Brilliant writing helped him, of course, but he displayed an extraordinary emotional range, from psychopathic chilling cruelty, to desperate hurt and vulnerability, he created a character of real complexity, repellent and attractive at the same time, in probably the best TV drama of the last 15 years.
He proved himself an outstanding actor when finally given the chance to move out of the crass roles he'd had in equally crass movies. It's really sad.

Well, I've never watched a solitary minute of The Sopranos, and couldn't point out Tony Soprano in a line, but found the fact that the actor that played him has died was basically unavoidable this morning.

Re: R.i.p tony s
It's terribly sad that anyone, in full career tilt, should pass at the really very young age of 51.
It's also interesting how an actor ... and a role ... which is so much a classic in many, many eyes is also one which made barely a dint in many others. So much so that those who were fans can't conceive of people not being.
I watched a few of the early episodes, couldn't be doing with the interminable visits to the (rather attractive in a Sarah Palin sort of way) shrink and gave up on it. I know it's viewed as a classic by gazillions, just never caught onto it. As I said so, RIP to a 51 year old in his prime.

Me too... sometimes you do wonder how you have managed to avoid something so ubiquitous and highly rated.Bruce Rioja wrote:Well, I've never watched a solitary minute of The Sopranos, and couldn't point out Tony Soprano in a line, but found the fact that the actor that played him has died was basically unavoidable this morning.
