went out this morning for a more properer test - did a circuit that I do often - 6.7 miles around some country lanes...
1) I was half a mile an hour faster than I was earlier this week when I did the same circuit...
2) I had a forced sudden and unexpected stop when my chain jumped the cogs and jammed - whilst going up a hill - so stopped pretty suddenly. Reassuringly - after a moment of flashing panic - I was able to disengage the clips so I didn't just fall over sideways...

(must adjust those derailleurs!)
