top challenge: find me a telly!
I have been given an amazon voucher for £200 as a thankyou from a church i have just finished helping...
the missus has decided i will spend it on a second telly for the spare room.
how hard can it be? well - for an old duffer like me - not a straightforward as I thought..
I have never owned a "smart" telly - we access netflix and amazon prime and that stuff via the kids' X-box 360
I read summat online that said that "smart" tellies are not really all that smart - and that it is better to use a set-top box which is smarter at being smart - and not have a smart tv or turn off the smart functions... I don't know if that is true - though it sounds reasonable..
what I need:
it can get freeview/netflix/Prime/BBCi-player/other TV catch-up services (more4 etc)
screen size not a crucial factor - tho - bigger is better!
all for £200 (or slightly over that)
either - a smart telly - OR - a telly with a set-top-box that does the smart stuff
and it has to be from Amazon.
(I looked at a few - and saw what looked like what i wanted - but then in the comments it said stuff like "needs an update to view netflix - but updates cannot be downloaded via the telly directly" - which all started to scare me!
has anyone got the time/knowledge/inclination to find me summat?
cheers!
(the missus has Amazon Prime - so if it is a Prime product - delivery would be free - I hope!)

If you are anywhere near a branch of Argos, it may be worth a look here:

Just go into currys get the advice and see what you like.
Decide on the tv and note the manufacturer and model then buy it on amazon. Simple.

Noted. It was just for ideas. We have two sets, a 32" Toshiba the wife prefers, but I've had a Sharp 26" in the back for maybe five years now and find it ace.thebish wrote:TANGODANCER wrote:If you are anywhere near a branch of Argos, it may be worth a look here:

If non smart is ok....
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-UE32J51 ... rds=LED+TV" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Smart version
http://www.amazon.co.uk/63/dp/B00UGK31A ... 0K190WH4DH" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Smart version says that there is no iplayer or demand 5 app yet which means you wouldn't be able to watch those services currently. Sure they'd be added in.
If you have an Xbox or any other sort of smart box I'd just buy the non smart version myself....

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
