And again 192-8. Throwing away wickets. Shambles. Thrown away this series.

Maybe not yet. We're the away side and not quite dead.

Might be wrong but think we need 280 plus to be competitive on this track.

Lot for Hales and Broad to do.

Let's not die just yet, and please, please, don't comment on the rugby. I got up feeling so positive....

Boycott, whilst being a reprehensible individual, generally isn't far out with his comments. He doesn't reckon it's a 350 wicket - 270 he suggested might be a winnable total - we're somewhat short of that. Looking at a scorecard where Hales aside the highest score is 27 and that's not good, no matter how positively you woke up. :-)

Indeed not. Neither was five wickets lost for 21? yesterday when we could have nailed the series. But this is crazy cricket at the best of times and it ain't lost till it's lost..

Boycott is right. It is fine saying we will play aggressive cricket, but you have to read the pitch and conditions. We scored runs relatively easily. Had we knocked it around till the 40th over and had 5 wickets left with a Buttler or Stokes in we easily could have knocked it to 300 plus.

Throwing wickets away is a nonsense and can't be justified by being aggressive. The balance for me isn't quite right. We need another bloke who hangs around mid order rather than bish bash bosh types who are fine on a flat wicket but otherwise a big risk.

No one is suggesting that it is. But If I'm going to start a fielding stint, I'd rather know whether I think we're bowling against a below par total, par or above par. May well change the tactics I use for bowlers and how to set a field...

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

Couple of very poor batting performances the last two for England - headless would be a reasonable description. It's great watching when they're battering the ball to all parts of the ground and we bat pretty much down to 10 - when it's a really good batting wicket with nowt for the bowlers. I do think we might need another defensive batsman in the team in a sort of "mobile" batting position - if we're parking them to all parts then keep dropping him down the order, if we're not put him in for a bit of stability...Either that or one of our world class sloggers needs to understand when we need to retrench and occasionally play more of a dig-in type game.

Game lost today, series lost yesterday. Five cheap wickets for 21. That's pretty poor.

Rashid probably dropped the series on Friday.

But still last two games for me we've thrown away wickets far too easily. Extra 50 runs today would have been dead easy without doing all that much. Just batting through. And had we scored those extra 50 that was a tough chase for SA. But too many threw wickets away trying to score big when we just needing to keep the score ticking over.

Think we have a way to go in this form of the game. We have the hitters, but need more balance in the line up. Root is the only natural sticker. We need another especially on difficult wickets.

I'll wait for the rest of it before mud-slinging. Might just be one of those wickets.....
