Hi Sean - it's been quite a while since we heard from you. Great race and for a moment I thought Bolt was beaten. He has slower acceleration but a higher top speed it seems.
Hello to you. Yea, i decided I needed a break. Found it getting a bit nasty here, and the leafs and Harper were already giving me enough angst, so I opted to focus my anger on Harper, and spare the good folk here.

Bolt is an amazing sprinter. So slow out of the blocks but then off he goes. De Grasse will also be a force to be reckoned with, and Bolt seems to think so also.

Enjoyed the cycling so far, once again surpassing all expectations. The omnium really isn't that complicated though! 6 events, 3 of which are against the clock, then there's the scratch race (first over the line after 15km wins) and the elimination race (last over the line every 2 laps eliminated, last man standing wins). Each event has points for finishing position from first to last. It then finishes with a points race - 160 laps, a sprint every 10 laps where there's 5,3,2,1 points available for the first across the line. The other way to pick points up is to lap the field where you get 20. Tactics depend on finding the balance between attacking the sprints, attacking to take laps or defending the attacks of others. You'll get another go to try and work it out with trott later on! She'll be riding a very defensive race though as she'll likely be streets ahead by then and is clearly the strongest in the field

One thing I have to question is why the BBC insist on switching this around channels. In the middle of the omnium points race at a fairly crucial point they went from 1 to 2 or the other way round and actually the program hadnt started yet so a sprint was missed.

Why can't they just have it on one channel and shift everything else to the other one?

This for me is very poor. Their presentation isn't very good either.

Yes. That annoyed me too (mildly). You think they'd schedule something lasting an hour on a channel that had an hour's worth of coverage..

Why not just say BBC one is for Olympics. Everything else will be on 2?

Yeah the other way round works too. Just a case of keeping everything together. Would still give them the same amount of airtime.

Probably because someone will complain because eastenders wasn't on or something. Turning over to beeb 2 would just be too much for them.

Just watched the Irish lad, Conlon, in the boxing. I'm no expert, but he won all three rounds by a distance from where I was sat and lost unanimously on points...bizarre.

Was that against the Russian? Not seen it but pretty widespread scepticism of the result..

We are a bit spoiled for choice over here. We have CBC (one Channel), TSN - The Sports Network (5 Olympic channels), Sportsnet (about 3 channels for the Olympics) and the French networks RDS and RadioCanada. If that is not enough we get NBC and ESPN. However, from some 14 channels devoted to Rio they are probably showing only four or five different events, and sometimes fewer. Plus all these have annoying commercials.

Yes, against the Russian, but a different one than yesterday's scepticism was about. BBC felt then need to point out that Conlon's views were his own as he made it known he wasn't happy.
