So right now, parliament is debating whether to have a vote to have a vote on whether we negotiate to negotiate a deal. Fxck me sideways.
I suggest we have a People's Referendum that decides whether Parliament can vote to have a vote on whether the UK can negotiate to negotiate a deal.

I am going back to Vladimir Putin to seek further reassurance that at some point in the future I will not fall off a very high hotel balcony for having the cheek to divorce his daughter.
More chance than treason May has of getting cast iron legal assurances on the backstop.

Not putting it to a vote is simply and purely because she knows she puts her own position at even greater risk.

She could have faced down her own MPs 2 years ago. She could have stood up and taken risks and got through this earlier. She hasn't because at every point she's simply taken the choice of "clinging on a bit longer". She's "kicked the can down the road as far as she possibly can" is the phrase the political arses use on twitter. Which she has. But she's let it fester rather than taking a risk.
Hasn't May avoided that so as not to annoy the Remain lot?

If she'd faced down her MPs 2 years ago and said " we're leaving & leaving on our terms or with no deal" I can well imagine the fury of you and others as you railed against it.

Her performance today was embarrassing but she was right about those calling for 'a people's vote'. Just be honest and say you're unhappy with the original referendum result rather than pretend it's some noble suggestion

Bercow hadn't the power to do anything. He couldn't force a vote. He did more than any other speaker likely would. He's clearly completely disillusioned with the government. See Leadsom today questioning his integrity. Its a war.

I don't mean face down her remainers. She has no need to. She needed to face down the Brexiteer ERG at the earliest opportunity kill them dead and then she'd have a chance of pushing a deal through. As it is she let the whole thing fester because her only motivation is keeping her job. She's utterly incompetent and a liar. And an absolute embarrassment to our country. A disgrace of a leader.

As for the people's vote - she's once again dead wrong. Of course its an admission that Brexit is a fecking disaster with absolutely no upside to any rational thinker. It is time to see if people really want to be poorer, have less opportunity, and potentially see food, energy and medicine shortages. That is what the government predict under no deal. Under any deal they say the economy will grow more slowly. IF that is what people want then we have it. But lets test it.

The whole Brexit shambles is a result of inner Tory turmoil that has happened for the past 40 odd years. It was an attempt by Cameron to silence the Eurosceptics in his party and shut them up. It miserably backfired. May then had a chance to put the ERG in their place and face them off early. She ran away and hid and spent two years with her trusted, but unelected, civil servants, negotiating a bad deal that her extreme Brexiteers hate more than anyone. But that nobody in parliament really thinks is a good deal.

Then instead of losing a vote and having a mandate to go back to the EU, she has shirked that and tried to go back to get a piece of non-legally binding paper to make everyone feel better.

This whole debacle and mess is the fault of the Tory party and it's utter vanity and leadership incompetence over the last 8 years.

The public, whether a Brexiteer or a remainer, will never, ever forgive them for this. I think they have done themselves irreperable harm. Brexiteers are disgusted at their surrender and remainers furious at their ineptitude and lack of moral fibre to do the right thing.

Until yesterday May had just about clung on to her feeble grip of "middle England" but now, delaying the vote has lost her even that support as everyone can see she is purely working in her own self-interest. Even previous uber-loyalists like Sarah Vine have turned on her.

Lord Ashcroft has done a poll of 5000 people. Theresa May's deal is as unpopular with the "people" as is it with MPs.

Interesting that the most popular solution is "a second referendum to choose between her deal and remain". BRING IT ON!

Also - popular opinion seems to be - we'd be better off staying in the EU than taking her deal.

No it should be remain or just leave, gerrymandering with a 'people's vote' would just inflame things even more.

Would be a clear choice. And it is what many Brexiteers want. As disastrous as I think no deal would be at least the whole thing would be clear and everyone decides.
