Oh just lay off crouch will you
It seems you guys give peter Crouch enough grief without noting Davies is a sub par version of him, his workrate= good , Davies's workrate= good (well according to most of you, im not included although i belieave it was there last night) Goals last season= 16, Davies= 9 was it, i bet you crouch has set up more goals than Davies as well. stats this year Crouch centre forward 0 goals. Davies centre forward= 1 goal. Honestly i think he played ok for England, and Liverpool fans have admitted hes been playing well but can't get the goals (he can actually play with the ball at his feet ya know unlike someone else.) Did he deserve an England call up? on the strength of last season yes, this season? maybe not, but who else is there? Vassell maybe and thats it. I wouldn't mind it that much if the same people who were criticising him were criticisng Davies but your not. I bet if Peter were 3 inches shorter you all wouldn't mind him. Im dreading Liverpools visit to Bolton this year, coz of all the abuse he will get it shouldn't happen to such a nice lad. yesterday the most stupid prick i have ever had the misfortune of coming across was singing to tottenham fans how "Hitler was gonna gas em again" i dread to think what kind of abuse he will inflict on this guy especially as half the crowd seem to as well.

I haven't seen enough of Crouch this year to make a judgement on him, but I definitely think you're being too hard on Davies on all accounts, and I am hardly the world's biggest Davies supporter. His footwork has looked much improved lately, he's covering more ground, and as for assists, I can think of three goals he's set up for Nolan this year. I do rue his lack of goals but we're far above Liverpool so I'll take Davies over Crouch, thanks very much.
Oh, and don't forget the price tag attached to Crouch, no doubt that has a lot to do with the criticism he's getting.

Agreed, we are being to hard on Crouch. I didn't like the calls of Freak that came from a few England
supporters at one of the recent games. That's just out of order. Ok its been shouted at him at the Reebok but its worse when it comes from your own supporters
However as for the Davies vs Crouch debate. I'd rather have Davies in our team than Crouch. We play with one man upfront, a target man. Crouch for all his height is not a Target man. He can't jump
and struggles to hold the ball up.
I think Harry, Rafa and Sven have all tried it and it don't work. With Shearer retired from international football, for my money Davies is the best target man we have. I hassen to add I mean Target man, not striker. A target man being someone you can go long to who will hold the ball up and bring others into play. Crouch can't do that. His best partnerships are when he flicks the ball on to another striker in a 4-4-2, 3-5-2 system. His success with Phillips last season, means it could work with Owen. Sven
thinks so and it looks like he's committed to talking Crouch to Germany. If he does I hope he
For Davies to get in he needs to bag more goals. The rest of his play is good enough. He's one of the top strikers in terms of assists. It goals though that get notice and he needs more
strikers in terms of ass

Crouch gets more stick than he deserves. The recent booing when he came on a sub in an England game was disgusting. What was that supposed to achieve?
As a target man Davies is better, but with the players England have, 4-4-2 with Rooney and Owen up front is the way we should be playing. We saw what happened against Northern Ireland when we tried to play 4-5-1.

Crouch has been bought by Liverpool and selected for England to give another option, ie as a target man. One problem: he is NOT a target man. He has the height but has absolutely no heading ability whatsoever. Yes he can play with his feet, which surprises a lot of people, but most players in the Championship can do this - is Crouch really worth £7m? Is he good enough to play for England as a non-target man? The answer to both these questions is no. Should Davies play for England? IMO he is not good enough, but that is because England don't and shouldn't play with a target man. If we did, then I can't see a better target man in the country other than Davies.
Re: Oh just lay off crouch will you
You can't honestly believe that that little Brummie should be considered for England!?!?!? As a target man?!?!?!?Eborted wrote:but who else is there? Vassell maybe and thats it.

no not as a target man, just as a normal striker to play alongside either defoe (although im not too keen on him) rooney and owenSteady wrote:You can't honestly believe that that little Brummie should be considered for England!?!?!? Phew! Well thats ok then, ish.....Vassell hasn't looked good for a while now - and IMO certainly not good enough for an England place.Eborted wrote:no not as a target man, just as a normal striker to play alongside either defoe (although im not too keen on him) rooney and owenSteady wrote:You can't honestly believe that that little Brummie should be considered for England!?!?!? To be fair Vassell has looked a far superior player since he has started playing for City, and his link-up play with Cole has been bordering on 'genius'.
I'm not going to get into a discussion discussing the merits of a 'misunderstood' Peter Crouch. The guy is no-where near England quality and never will be. A goal tally of 0 for Liverpool thus far this season proves that. As a holding player and target striker there are few better than Davies, especially when you start comparing that players value:
Crouch - value £7m: Liverpool - 6th/7th/8th???
Davies - feck all and a pie: Bolton - 3rd
Doesn't take a genius to work out you're talking bollocks.

ffs - DAVIES does so much more for us than score goals. As a striker the 'goals for' column should be all that matters, but Davies is crucial to our system of play. Davies is one of the reasons why we score so many goals from our wide positions and from deep midfield. If Sven was looking for a goal-a-game striker he wouldn't be anywhere near the vicinity of Crouch. He wants a target man who can hold up the ball, head crosses and long passes, and lay-it off to other attackers and midfield players. Thats why he keeps picking Crouch. In my opinion Davies is far better at this than beanpole Crouch. Now stop trying to make a complicated discussion simple just so you can feel involved.......keveh wrote:you have forgot the mammoth 1 goal that Davies has scored!Bench wrote:Crouch - value £7m: Liverpool - 6th/7th/8th???

The irony of this thread has just struck me. Eborted, the principle nay-sayer and architect of the potential uprising against Kevin Davies, is asking his fellow fans to stop 'having a go' at poor old lanky Crouch. What about Davies? Doesn't he deserve to be spared for your rather pathetic rants?

You're criticising Kevin Davies' work rate? The guy runs himself into the ground every game he plays for us. He's an absolutely brilliant target man.
Crouch is a very poor striker with a shambolic goal-scoring record and an even worse target man. And he cost £7million to boot. Yes, his treatment at the hands of England fans is reprehensible but that shouldn't obscure the fact that he's not a very good player.

Crouch may have cost 7 million but thats only because Liverpool were daft enough to pay that amount for him.
I've got a six year old Ford Escort. If someone is stupid enough to give me 10 grand for it, it suddenly doesn't become a 911 turbo does it?
If Liverpool had offered us 7 million for Davies we'd have taken it wouldn't we? And he's a miles better player than Crouchy is too.
