theres one i can never remember proper espesh the dudes name) , its in the 70s by brazil and theyre either playing italy or argentina (they win about 4-1 ) ...

the ball is on the right side of the field (near the corner of the 16yard box , maybe) and this brazil player kinda crosses it in , but he's shooting , the ball swings right , then it seems to swing left - like an 'S' shape , and it goes in the top left corner of the goal ..

dead dead good ...

I was not old enough to see Pele, and they dont show the highlights often over here. In 98 I remember being sat calmly when the move started and Beckham dropped that pass over his head onto his feet. 10 seconds later I realized I was on my feet in the middle of the living room screaming at the top of my lungs. I just never thought I'd see an Englishmen do that. It will always be the best for me.

That was 1958 and he was great. England might have won but they dropped Nat right after he scored two goals to win the FA Cup. I didn't understand the decision then and I've still never figured it out.

For me Ferenc Bene in about the 3rd minute of the the best football match I ever saw Hungary v Brazil at Goodison 1966

Found this description on Google
MSV.012 - 1966 World Cup Finals - Group 1 at Goodison Park. 90 mins
BRAZIL 1 v HUNGARY 3

Tostao replaced Pele with distinction, but the Hungarian successors of the ‘Golden Squad’ showed how to create the greatest effect from the least effort. Florian Albert, socks around his ankles, ran the match, and Bene was the explosive power that harried Brazil to their first defeat since 1954 - and by the same country. Described by the Press ‘one of the most vivid matches of all time’ and enjoyed by a large Goodison crowd.

Edited

I'd forgotten that Saudi Arabia one from 1994 against Belgium. Pretty shabby defending, but still a cracking goal.

He *was* 33 and England had a few good forwards. Brian Clough didn't make it despite scoring 44 goals...

The build up to that goal was incredible. It must have been about 20-25 passes, easily the best goal of that tournament. I even think it dicks on Carlos Alberto as the best team goal scored at a world cup, shame we haven't seen Borgetti celebrate like that too often.

Just to reignite this debate, where does the second goal against Serbia & Montenegro scored by Argentina stand? I personally think that was the best team goal scored at any world cup, closely followed by Borgetti's. Infact I've found a link for the whole move to that, not just the fantastic finish and to prove my point that it is infact a better goal than Carlos Alberto!

It has to be up there amongst the very best, particularly the last few passes, which showed how to negate the tactic, whereby teams pack the midfield with bodies in order to stifle the opposition. Lots of one touch passes, and the pace they moved the ball around was phenomenal.

Nobody remebering Bobby Charlton's blaster against Portugal in the semi final of the 66 World Cup? Maybe no one old enough?

His goal against Mexico was far better!

'Picking up the ball in the centre circle of the Wembley pitch, Charlton issued a Mexican challenger with a body swerve which sent his opponent the wrong way and opened up a sizeable gap ahead of him. His reputation for long-range finishes now the stuff of legend, everyone braced themselves for a shot - and Charlton memorably obliged. It arrowed straight into the top corner of the Mexico net, finally opening England's goal account in the tournament and setting them up for a 2-0 win'.

The only link I can find to watch the goal is the following which as a collection of 'famous' England goals.

WARNING - the music and lyrics that accompany the clip may not be to everyone's taste - it certainly isn't mine!
