It's about time they updated the style of that site.communistworkethic wrote:www.snopes.com
It's had the same look for years, apart from they changed the header section.
Good site though.
I had posted this elsewhere on the site but post it here again under the 'triva' heading -
Nottingham facts -
FACT 1
Did you know that Nottingham Forrest ground (The City ground) is actually outside the the official boundary of Nottingham whilst Notts County's ground (Meadow Lane) is actually directly across the Trent and thus is in the city of Nottingham!
Therefore it would actually be more accurate to rename Notts County to Nottingham City and Nottingham Forrest to Nottingham(shire) County (or Notts County for short!). At the same time the City ground (home of Nottingham Forrest that was - now named Notts County - but not the Notts County that has just been renamed Nottingham City) should be renamed - as it its not actually in the city of Nottingham, and the name 'City Ground' should be used by Notts City (formally Notts County) who is in the city of Nottingham - whose more accurate address would then be -
The City Ground
Meadow Lane
Nottingham
FACT 2
The two clubs lie just 300 yards away from each other and are the closest grounds to each other in England!
FACT 3
Notts County (the one that does not play in the county despite of its name and does not play at the City Ground - even though it is the only club inside the city boundary) play in a black and white striped kit, which was the inspiration for Juventus's strip of the same design.
FACT 4
Nottingham Forest are not named after Sherwood Forest as many believe (Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham and all that) but take their name from the Forest Recreation Ground, a public space in the city proper where the club were formed (but no longer play).

I believe that this came about when Juve turned up to play a series of friendlies over here and turned up without their kit, so Notts County lent them one and they liked it so much they decided to keep it. Originally Juve played in pink which is now the colour of their 'keepers jersey.sluffy wrote:FACT 3

The Forest Recreation ground was named after Sherwood Forest so...
see
The Forest Recreation Ground is a recreation ground in Nottingham, England, about a mile north of the city centre. The name comes from mediaeval times when the land was part of Sherwood Forest that once extended from Nottingham itself up to the north of the county. This was one of the original parts of the 1845 Nottingham Inclosure Act which preserved eighty acres (324,000 m²) of Sherwood Forest for recreational use.

Just going off at a very slight tangent?? Can anyone confirm if you can only wear grey tinted sunglasses when driving?? I've got some pink tinted sunglasses and the optician has told me I won't be allowed to drive in them as they will not allow me to see the colour of traffice lights properly???
So bizarre I can't believe it's true but haven't seen anything since to confirm... Please can anyone shed some light on my puzzlement??? Ta!

Always looking at things through rose-tinted specs, eh Gertie? Sounds like nonsense to me since the position of the light is relevant too - pink specs won't make red lights appear green. But perhaps they passed a law. In Wyoming it is illegal to jump off a building. I don't know why they have laws like that. At some point we have to draw the line between laws that help people and those that are a hindrance to the upward evolution of the human race. What colour do the lights appear to you now, Gertie?Gertie wrote:Just going off at a very slight tangent?? Can anyone confirm if you can only wear grey tinted sunglasses when driving?? I believe he's talking pooh Gerts, he just wants you to buy more. The highway code doesn't mention the colour of the lens but they can't obscure your visison and if you wear specs normally they must be prescription or you should wear contact lenses. Oh and obviously don't wear them at night. If the colour of traffic lights was an issue then how would colour blind people get on?Gertie wrote:Just going off at a very slight tangent??
