The Greatest Ever... England Goal!

Post by CrazyHorse » Thu Jun 01, 2006 6:08 pm

Doesn't have to specifically be a world cup goal (I would say that because mine isn't)

What do you reckon is the best goal that England have ever scored? Geoff Hurst? Gary Lineker? Alan Shearer?

My faveourite and IMO the greatest England goal ever was in Euro '96. Paul Gascoigne against Scotland. You know the one I mean - the flick over the defender then a volley to himself and BANG it's in! Brilliant!

Any others better than that?

That is my # 2. I still like Owen's goal against Argentina in 98 best.

Seconded Owen v Argentina. But the winner by Sir Geoff in the 1966 final was a bit special.

Lineker's equaliser against the Germans in 1990 was pretty good too.

Everything about it was great. The fact it was against Scotland. The celebration. Absolute genius Gazza. Pity he was so screwed up off the field.

It has to be Hurst's goal that bounced off the cross bar, over the line and then out again. It won us the World Cup and made me support Russian linesmen ever since.
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

Tough call.

Gazza's was an absolute humdinger, beautiful. Everything about it was classy. A little bit route one but great hold up play and pass. The flick over Hendry was wonderful, the finish stunning.

Owen's in 1998 was something out of this world as well. I will have to get splinters in my arse about this, unable to choose. Credit to a few of the goals in the Holland match in Euro 96 as well, a couple of those were corkers.
