Sorry to go slightly off-topic, but mentioning Lance means I have to share my favourite ever TV joke - on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart: "Lance Armstrong's 'It's Not About The Bike' sold far better than the bike's book 'F--k You, Lance'."

It would seem that my taste in books is a cross between Bench's and Barnet's!

Life of Pi is a cracking read, and Love All People is jaw droppingly good. Revolution in the Head is a must for anyone remotely into The Beatles. Anyway...

Hell's Angels - Hunter S Thompson
Futebol - Alex Bellos (a must for ANYONE who likes football)
The People's Music - Iain MacDonald
A book on Ceatano Veloso's 'Tropicalismo' movemnet in Brazil
Tony Hawk's 'One Hit Wonderland' (a funnier writer than performer)
Everything by Camus
America by Jean Bouldriard (sp?)
and others...
I write words for a living. I play records for a living. Both of these thing should tell you that I'm a failed musician.

I'm currently reading 'Rip it Up and Start Again' Simon Reynolds' history of post-punk music. Worth checking out.

Just read a book called Saturday which is based in London that was a decent read, loads of big long words and not much dialogue but still rather entertaining

Indeed, one and the same! His newest one is about his attempts to have another hit (liek Stutter Rap), you should fish it out... it's a light read, but good fun!

Currently reading "Labrinth" by Kate Mosse (no, not that one). Not got too far into it yet and it's quite a sizeable book, but it's about the Cathars during the Templar era. Another slant on the Grail theory?

London, the novel is a decent read charting the history of the capital from pre-Roman times through to the modern day through the eyes of five families and their descendents. Interesting twist.

I also like Christopher Brookmyre. 'Vinnie got blown away','boiling a frog' etc.

Just bought that one from work Tango, we've had mounds of them here for a while - and they sell well, so made me think it would be an interesting read....but yes, it is sizeable so it may take me a while to get round to reading it! You'll have to let me know if it's good or not 8) !

I'll try SKD, but at the moment I can't get into much reading from editing my own book. Reviews say it's good but it needs re-formatting to suit the publishers (all of whom seem to have differernt standards). I'll report on Labrinth as soon as I can. The topic's intruiging I must admit.

I am reading the EMPEROR series by Conn Iggulden, an account of the life of Julius Caesar.

A series of 4 books, I heartily recommend them all.

I forget what the title was, but for a shameless Tangodancer-style plug, my PhD thesis.

Here's what the critics said:

Times Literary Supplement: 'An incredible tour-de-force'
The Book Collector: 'A coruscating probe into the depth of the human psyche'
The Bastards from the Viva: 'Rewrite chapter seven, or we'll bust you down to a MPhil'

That said, it hasn't got me a single upgrade on an international flight yet.

Don't do it, kids!

And on the back of those two splendid examples, Raven, I've just ordered up a copy from Play.com @ £7.49.

Cheers!

Well you have risen in my estimation.

Though the God-less film version of HDM scares me somewhat. Read the whole series three or four times now, very vry good.

I'm up to Gods of War by Iggulden, I can't put it down, think I may name my first born Renius!
