YOU ESS AY vs Czech's

Post by keveh » Mon Jun 12, 2006 4:38 pm

I'm surprised by the amount of american's that are actually excited about todays game.

I'm not sure if you've heard of somethingawful.com, their forums are huge and the sports forum is really popular. American's have actually taken the time to sit down, read the rules, and learn stuff about the game such as the different positions and what they are used for. Pretty impressed their giving it a chance, they are probably more psyched up than when the World Cup was at their place!

There have been a pretty long discussion the US team, but let's just leave this thread for the game shall we.

I've got the Czechs down for a 2 - 1 win, but now I've heard this I'm not sure!

Czechoslovakia deny commie fantasy soccer score points with a score from the head of their strike man! A rocket man head kick after a curl ball from the free throw penalty line.

Not a good display by the US. i'll take my lumps. They are better than that, but they shut off for the first goal and dint know how to break the Czech's down. A great goal for their 2nd though. Reyna was too slow to shut him down.

Czechs looked good America looked Woeful, thefirst goal was a good header but the defending was abysmal, Onyewu seemed to go walkabout for the whole 90 and looked rather piss poor if I'm honest, based on todays performance, Boro can have the lad

especially the second, where he was out of position and then left for dead.

Who wanted us to buy Onyewu anyway, the lad did himself no favours in yesterday's game.

I must admit that Onyewu looked out of his depth. He's better than that, but many of you were more than correct in pointing out he's not the finished article. (However that's why he's a bargain)

£2m for "not the finished article" is not a bargain.

Obviously that wasn't him looking his best, he was playing against decent players for a change.

Well this could turn into a transfer thread again. Sam has said that it's no longer easy to pick players up on frees. Particularly young ones who can become mainstays.

Basing this on his last performance, I really dont see how could become a 'mainstay' how old is he again? 23? tahts the same as Ben Haim

Yes, and do you really think we'll get another Ben Haim again?

No but Im comparing the age, at 23 he should be mature enough to be able to be classed as a first teamer immediately not 'one for the future' if you want to sign a player who "isnt the finished article" you go for a 18-19 year old with room for improvement not somebody in their mid-twenties
