Almost every film takes a dim view of us bullying English. Mel Gibson has made a career of it: see "Braveheart" and "The Patriot". Others, Rob Roy, Last of the Mohicans, Ned Kelly etc etc, love to do the same. Guess we're a bad lot.ratbert wrote:I'm always a bit concerned that films such as The Proposal will take a pretty dim view of us English types - is it the case?

Yes, "Passion of the Christ" caused quite an uproar. Bet he doesn't go to Tel Aviv for his holidays.ratbert wrote:Mel's picking on the Jews now anyway...TANGODANCER wrote:Almost every film takes a dim view of us bullying English. Good call on Schlinders List, The Pianist and Hotel Rwanda.CAPSLOCK wrote:NOT WATCHED THE DEER HUNTER FOR OVER 20 YEARS
ANYWAY, I'LL RAISE YOU WITH FORREST GUMP AND HOTEL RWANDA
I'll call with Memento. Another Guy Peirce classic.
Not as powerful, but equally as good - LA Confidential and The Usual Suspects.
As for The Proposal - can't say I've heard of it but I'll certainly give it a go. I liked the Deer Hunter, but I too thought that it dragged on in parts. Hopefully The Proposal deals with this downside......

Is that the one sub-titled "Precinct 13" ?.cophilie wrote:La Haine has to be up there with foreign films, especially in view of the (relatively) recent riots in France. Not sure when it was made but it's still effective at protraying the problems in French society.
