Germany won 13-0 tonight.

If there were easy international games these days, imagine what the scoreline could have been.

Australia beat America Samoa by a world record score of 31-0 a few years ago.

And Archie Thompson scored 13 in that match.

Apparently it's a record in the Euro championship.

David Platt stated (on Sky Sport) that Michael Carrick is a "sublime footballer". Whatever that means.

Just in case you needed an explanation as to why Platty's fat arse was in a commentary box and not a dug-out this evening.

I think that defines a footballer who does bugger all during games but regularly gets 6/10 in the Player's Ratings the next day.

A win is a win. We had the chances and against a surprisingly better side than I expected. Macedonia's close passing build-ups were excellent, all their forwards could take on and beat a man and they were a very pacy side. We pretty much dominated the game except when we sat back and even Lawro got it right when he asked why Defoe needed to come back and leave us with no break options.

Johnson came on too late to show anything, Lennon caused his usual upsets down the wing but with no real end product, due mainly to the kamikazi defence of Macedonia. The midfield was competent enough but far too much was fired hopefully down route one. We had a narrow escape late on when Cole cleared off the line after an attack of St Vitus Dance. Terry was a rock in defence but I still prefer Brown to Ferdinand (I prefer anybody to him actually). Why Phil Neville is in there I don't know as even Beckham could play right back better. Gerrard played well enough but was confined to a more defensive role, due mainly to a better class of opposition. Lampard is still way off the pace. We weren't allowed the space of previous games and it showed in our approach play. All in all, as I said at the start, a win is a win, but not an impressive one this time. Plaudits to Macedona for effort, although they would upset a tougher ref with some of their antics. They certainly weren't intimidated.

Long ball, 4-5-1, reliance on the long throw.

I wonder if England will be called boring and accused of spoiling the game?

More theatrical diving by Crouch, but a win is a win is a win.

I just think it shows that all the Sven-bashing was totally unfair. Forget the manager, England's starting XI simply have no drive, no ambition, no pace. Put a half decent side in front of them and they pray for 1-0.

Why is he there? Surely we have a better English right back other than this donkey.

I understand he's in the squad to be a utility player, but at the moment it looks like he's our first choice. There must be someone else...

Anyone see the national flags they had on the pitch before the match? Theirs was 4 times the size of ours. Inferiority complex methinks Also the crowd were burning 6ft by 6ft England flags....where the hell do you get giant england flags in Macedonia? Nick/buy 'em off the travelling fans?
