well yeah i agree with the quote, if there was a music of white origin awards there'd be hell up. yet the MOBOs are acceptable, along with a theatre in London for plays by black actors and writers only and im sure many other things (im getting a sense of deja vu, i think we have debated this before).
Nay-Nay: so good they named me twice

In theory, yes you are correct in that the MOBO's could well be deemed to be racist. However, the British music industry tends to class "music of black origin" as generally rap, hip-hop and R&B etc, whereas a "music of white origin" awards could potentially cover all kinds of music, and as such would be a bit of a bugger to organise, so I think it's more of a logistic decision rather than a deliberate racist slur.

I'm in much the same boat, hence the "etc" cop-out once I'd thought of all the mainstream MOBO possibilitiesBruce Rioja wrote:Which is fine by me. Maybe they forgot about Gospel, Soul, Swing, Jazz and Blues.Leyther_Matt wrote:In theory, yes you are correct in that the MOBO's could well be deemed to be racist. The MOBOS were first awarded for Hiphop music which was absolutetly dominated by black people, so it isn't racist at all. For the first 40 years, the Oscars was all white.
Anyhoo, the MOBOS are opening up, Joss Stone won one last year.
(PS, I'm a little pissed, so if this makes no sense, i make no apology!)

that's the real tragedy - they axed the jazz award this year - and they have no Gospel award. It appears they have forgotten the last "0" stands for "origin"
but I don't think it's racist - anymore than the Eisteddfod in Wales is racist - or the Highland Games
