who's stopping up then? I predict I shall nod off at lunch.....

anyone care to offer a first day prediction:

if Australia bat: 287 for 4
if England bat: 187 for 6

PS: Giles in over Monty...
Even if england bat first - the experts reckon they should, but froma selfish point of view, I'd prefer to see us bowl, much less stressful - there'll be 250 runs in the day, surely

I'd prefer to see us bowl, I just have this feeling we are going to see some wickets are going to fall early.

I've been away for a week revising, so missed some of the banter, but why the fgod damn hell are we not playing panesar!!!

By playing the king of spain we've just given the aussies the biggest pick me up they could have got its such a defensive move!!

What can one say, except 'Oh dear'. Did England bring any bowlers other than Freddy? I am extremely disappointed. Ah well, day 2 starts in a couple of hours, maybe they will have learned something from yesterday's slaughter.

The pitch is a batters paradise

And should be for another day or so

Then we'll start to see uneven bounce and day 4/5 it'll turn square and

No problems with the home team preparing pitches to suit em, but thats whats happening

Can't argue with that too much, BR, but I was looking forward to a contest. Perhaps England will come out and do the same if conditions permit. If so it'll turn into a boring draw or an exciting last couple of days - depending on the weather, the pitch and the captains' decisions.
