Doesn't its lack of depth in proportion to its surface area render it as NOT being a lake?

There's bound to be bloody poets involved somewhere down the line...what with their dancing bloody daffodils and vales and hills...
"It's a bloody lake"
"Nay, yay, verily I tell thee, 'tis a mere"

Re: the Photo thread
This is what happens when lakes become meres.
One of the last known groups of woolly mammoths died out because of a lack of drinking water, scientists believe.
The Ice Age beasts were living on a remote island off the coast of Alaska, and scientists have dated their demise to about 5,600 years ago.
They believe that a warming climate caused lakes to become shallower, leaving the animals unable to quench their thirst.

You have hit the nail on the head. Historically, a mere seems to be a shallow body of water similar to a marsh or bog meaning it could dry out during hot weather. Whether the meres in the Lake District are actually meres now is certainly up for debate but it would appear that they could have been once upon a time.
Do not trust atoms. They make up everything.

We were told that the Geishas, or Geikos as they're known in Kyoto, weren't always around and that we'd be lucky to see one.........
We timed it just right. This second year geiko was being followed by her first year Meiko colleague. They're fast moving and the girl behind is a tad soft focused, but hey....

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
