Conor Wilkinson has gone to Gillingham on a permanent deal.

I have a feeling they were in the Champions League either this season just gone or the one before. No mean feat to qualify for that out of the Bundesliga. The morning Iles:
Buckley expected to sign two-year deal today after medical yesterday, but we’re still chasing Ameobi (whose demands have dropped from Frankly Laughable to Possibly Achievable) and “hope to wrap up” Burke & Cullen “by next week”.

Also: Samizadeh set for loan to SPL Kilmarnock (sounds like till January)

Cullen would also be a great loan signing in central midfield, far better than Spearing IMO

Doesn't Buckley have a really bad injury record?

Maybe we're looking at a here and now, six million dollar scenario "We have the technology" etc..? We surely wouldn't give him a contract otherwise.?

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Someone asked a Brighton forum about Buckley. Selected responses:
• A hamstring made of glass.
• Wonderful player on his day. Scintillating burst of pace and devastating finish
• There was one helluva player in there a few years ago - a real game changer with invention, speed, finishing - at times the whole package. Was never quite the same after lots of injuries robbed him of pace. The move to Sunderland worked out to be a poor choice for him (and Liam Bridcutt) from a playing perspective, and he certainly has been a shadow of the player he was. Not seen him for so long now that assume he will never have the same pace again, so can he adapt his game to be a different type of player
• He was great for us when fit, fast and direct. If he's over his hamstring problems you've got a gem.
• The key for him will be going to a club who intend to play him regularly, that's what he needs. Stop/start is going to kill him because he needs a run of games to hit top form. … If he didn't have fitness concerns, he'd be playing regularly in the Premier League.
• Wonderful player when on form which is one in 10. Tends to go - Average, average, brilliant, injured x 7 and start again.
• He could pull a Hamstring typing an email
• Wimp - end of. Had and still has an over inflated status from some fans because of the opening game at The Amex. Will cry off at the drop of a hat if he doesn't fancy it on the day.
• Great player on his day, if he had two hamstrings he'd be in the PL.
• Could be a superb signing. Giggs didn't get over his hamstrings until his later 20s. Buckley still played 30+ games per season with us for 3 seasons. Well worth a risk I'd say, I saw the thread [titled Will Buckley] and thought we might have had a punt taking him back!
• Without having to trawl back through the thread, did anyone mention the hamstrings?

If we can get that out of him and have him enjoying his football again, I think we'll have a really top signing on our hands"...

If tomos happy Im happy
I would still take Ameobi though. Left footed. Not sure how Morais and Buckley fit into the same team. Is Buckley one of them that likes playing on the wrong side?

This is one of the best free transfer signings we could have ever expected - Buckley is twice the player Morias is (and I really like Morais) - and he's completely different, he's had his injury problems (although he's only 27), but if he hadn't we wouldn't have got him on a free.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2017 6:05 pmIf tomos happy Im happy

He's a tall, direct, pacey, creative winger who on his day can be unplayable, and he likes to take defenders on - hopefully we can get him fit & strong and give him games, because he needs to be a regular starter not a sub.
Morias & Buckley won't be in the same starting XI - Buckley would have to start with Morias as sub.

A quick shuftie of the internet suggests Buckley can play on either wing or even as a forward.Peter Thompson wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2017 6:25 pm

I am quite happy with the Buckley signing. With our finances and ubiquitous embargo, this is the kind of signing we have to make. It is a gamble, but gives us a chance of having much needed creativity, and presumably is a signing falls within our budget. There is probably more chance of Buckley being a flop but if he isn't and stays fit and plays well he will lift us up this league. Lets hope the backroom team that turned Wheater into an almost ever present last year can have the same effect on Buckley.

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
To be honest B-W3 , I saw this signing as a small ( maybe not too small) indication, along with the rest of our transactions, as a positive sign that the Ken man and Parky are combining to build us a squad. So far, with Wheater, Alf, Morais, Taylor and Dervite etc, seeming to want to be here despite our cap on earnings, it all looks pretty promising so far.bristol_Wanderer3 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2017 10:58 pmI am quite happy with the Buckley signing. Flexibility is important. I'm sure we want to go 3-5-2 sometimes and 4-5-1 others. Possibly even 4-4-2.
Bottom line is that if we want to play ALF up front in his normal position it will mean 3 at the back. IMHO.

Some news other than missed payments and Twitter spats. Two re-signed, a new name and a cull of youth.
