Heading to the Riverside for Pulisball. Middlesbrough (a) 19/9/18 745pm

Post by bristol_Wanderer3 » Wed Sep 19, 2018 7:40 am

We are back on it later today in one of the tougher looking games of the season at Middlesbrough.

It is hard to be original in the modern day football world but Tony Pulis must be close. After a decade of keeping Stoke, Palace and WBA in the Premiership, he was tasked with ensuring Middlesbrough return there before financial reality bites and parachute payments end after this season. In true Pulis style the chosen method appears to be to get as many central defenders and central midfielders in the team as possible whilst having a punishing pre-season to get off to a fast start. Hence Boro had a W4 D2 L0 record from the first phase of the season before suffering their first defeat of the season at Norwich on Saturday. All this employing a 5-4-1 formation, including four by trade centre halves, on of whom, Ryan Shotton deployed as a wing back.

We are having a terrible time. Our chairman saw fit to attempt to put us in administration over a £4m debt we had known about for over a year, then we lose club legend Eddie Davies, and then find out Stephen Darby as been tragically diagnosed with MND. Losing our best player for six weeks and losing a home game barely warrant a mention in terms of magnitude, but they happened too. All of which means that Parky has an incredibly tough job to get minds focused on this game. As if things weren't hard enough we have a long away trip to Ipswich less than 72 hours after this game to consider.

This will be as close to basketball on a football field as you will ever see with the majority of the 22 players certain to be over 6ft, and the ball likely to be in the air a lot. I am struggling to see beyond a 2-0 defeat here, but hoping for the unlikely. COYW.

0-0. Us to keep twatting up to the big lad - their centre halves to keep heading it back out utilising the tops of their heads like Johnny 'The Hard Man' Dexter.

Is it on telly, by the way?

Pasties V Yorkshire puddings. War of the Roses part 563:

I don't bother hating anybody, just a waste of good stress-free time, but I can dislike some folk with impunity due to knowing others may feel the same. One of those is Tony Pulis. Don't know why, he just is. That said he is a wily, shrewd manager who will have had us under the crystal ball well in advance. He'll know our game and our weak spots, be assured. He has a committed sort of dedication to whoever he manages and comes across (for me) as a pit bull in a poodle parlour in his rants at officialdom. Only good thing about this game is the number of new faces in our line up. Pulis will be familiar with almost all of them from other arenas (maybe not Doidge?) but not in our set up, although even the manager of Fiji Casuals will know about our wallop ball in hope technique. If we play football we might even manage to fool Pulis long enough to escape with something from North Yorkshire other than puddings. Give em some Eccles cake!

So let's have a rousing COME ON YOU WHITES and get amongst those Yorkies. :oyea: :oyea: :oyea:

This or 2-1.
Or 3-2.
Or 4-3.

I mean, this is the kind of thing I'm talking about. Totally flat midfield. That said, we've been better away from home so far but I'm not holding my breath on this one.

An attacking Parkinson 4-5-1 or 3-6-1 formation....very narrow, no wingers - I feel really sorry for Magennis

Bonkers team selection that. No outlet at all. Biggest reason we’ve done well away has been a front man working hard and two wide men. Boro change to a back four so seemingly our decision to play a 5 (always stupid) rendered moot.

A game we were unlikely to get much out of now looks a home banker. 3 or 4 nil I suspect. Unless they Pulis it and stop at 2.

It's like I said on twitter earlier - no need to make dramatic changes away, where our form has been good.

Yep I don’t get it. Why change what was working?
