Transfermarkt has an interesting page on each club: under History then Youth Academy, it lists the alumni and what they've gone on to do. Here's ours:

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bolton- ... on=0&art=0
Lots of those weren't products of our academy.

Blimey, I never rated Adam Bogdan. In fact, I'd go as far as to say he's our worst Goalie since Simon Farnworth. However, I didn't expect him to be jobless at 32.

Surely he’s only clubless through his own choice? He must have been on a decent wage (probably dramatically overpaid given his ability) at Liverpool which no one has come close to offering him once his contract ran out. If his wage demands or ego were realistic then there’d be a club somewhere for him.

Wasn't Kevin Nolan an academy product?

Nolan is on there.

BWFCi, as usual there’s some grey areas about who was and wasn’t “academy”. There’s no standardised cutoff.

Meanwhile, this morning’s Hill quotes include this...

“They will get pushed. I can’t change the way I want to train the players and everybody has got to understand that – whether it’s the medical department, the players, the fitness coach. It is just the way I work. People say I haven’t had any success, but I have. I have had massive success individually with players who still phone me up and say they wish they were still training with me.”

Interesting mention of the medics and fitness coach. Could just be listing folk as a rhetorical device, but you also get the feeling dissenting voices have been raised. Odd to mention the perception that he hasn’t won anything - as if he’s reporting an argument.

This "school" is becoming more Strange Hill than Grange Hill by the day!

McGinlay was very critical, Lee and Kelly are very tight with him. Not sure about Jimmy P. Is Hill in charge of these people? Or do they all answer to Beaugeard and Brittan directly? Not sure what the management hierarchy is right now.

McGinlay is thick as mince.

It would be unusual for academy and U16/18 coaches to report to COO and not via football side but as you say we don’t know.

Also last I heard Jimmy Phillips and Lee were not on speaking terms.

It’s all very strange, and seems a bit too much of our dirty laundry being made public. Brave on Hill’s part too, as fans seem to have a soft spot for Lee, Phillips and the academy. I’m happy to trust Hill for now.

McGinlay is actually a decent guy tbh, you'd be suprised.

Ignorant comment. Despite your views on his intellectual levels, he is undoubtedly a proven true Bolton supporter. He might also be remembered as a footballer for us.

Care to support that? I'm neither agreeing nor disagreeing with you, but it's quite a bold statement. He does tend to play up to this 'fans hero' role though.

I’ve heard him opine at length about the poor running of Bolton Wanderers about the takeover about administration all of which without the first clue what he was talking about. Now I dare say he will claim he’s not alone in that. But not sure he can take the irony of lecturing others on business decisions given his own record of running businesses into the ground.

A mutual acquaintance of mine was involved loosely in one of his drinking establishments the stories about SJM and how utterly clueless he was in running a business are shocking.

Never said he wasn’t. He’s just not very bright. There is a difference.

I can't imagine Jimmy, or David Lee are the sort of blokes you'd want in a pub quiz either, but it doesn't mean SJM doesn't know football

Well - he might do - there is not much evidence of that though, looking at his coaching record (or mainly lack of).

Well, Jimmy did go to Canon Slade and studied for his A-Levels whilst serving his apprenticeship. Just sayin', like ;)
