Can we give the junior citizens the blues? Man City u23s EFL Trophy (H) 29.10.19 KO 7pm
Who's going?
Personally, I didn't want to be seen to support this competition but (a) FV deserve our support more and (b) it's only a fiver.
Looking at our U23 line up tonight, suggests a strong side for tomorrow. O'Grady to get his first home start?
2-1 win

Yes, you can. In fact, it's the only way to get in. Hand over a fiver at the turnstile and then I believe you can sit where you like (in the two stands that are open, obviously).

I'm also someone who doesn't want to play my part in legitimising this competition but, like you, have felt conflicted over whether I should maintain my boycott or continue to show my support for the new ownership. As it stands, though, it's not enough for me to change my stance so I'm out.

Started at Bristol, didn't he?

Quite like the idea of the lower league cup. Hate the idea that the U21's were introduced into the competition though.
How demoralizing for fans to know that their first team is worse than some premier league sides U21 team.
Play the youth team. Let the lads have a run in the team.

Ironically, you can’t, because people said making multiple changes demeaned the competition. Majority have to have played in the last game or a majority of games this season.Mar wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 10:41 pmQuite like the idea of the lower league cup. Our first team will be worse than some premiership U18 sides....Mar wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 10:41 pmQuite like the idea of the lower league cup. Hate the idea that the U21's were introduced into the competition though.

Just the way it is now. Huge, huge gap between league one and champiosnhip - let alone premiership!
Re: Can we give the junior citizens the blues? Man City u23s EFL Trophy (H) 29.10.19 KO 7pm
Rubbish. We'd flatten any U18s. The gap between Prem and L1 is not as big as the gap between 17 and 28. Think one or two of our own kids would support that.
Of the 16 Prem U21 (apparently here, rather than the U23 for their own leagues) only 6 are on track to qualify for the next round.

Should do it anyway. We've used our youth team in the competition previously and we won't be making subsequent changes compared to that. If our youth team wasn't sufficient in the earlier matches because it would demean the competition then they shouldn't have let us play earlier.
The youth team have played enough in the league to warrant an extra crack at the game.

Narr, let’s play the seniors and kick them off the park. Hope we stuff ‘em. But feck knows how they think people with normal jobs in Manchester and beyond have the ability to get there for a 7pm kick off.
It will be on Ifollow again I imagine.

Most of that "youth team" played in the U23s last night.Mar wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 12:54 pmDave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 8:11 amIronically, you can’t, because people said making multiple changes demeaned the competition. With an EFL points deduction hanging over us for twice failing to fulfil fixtures, I'd say it might be a little needlessly provocative to play a weakened team.Mar wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 12:54 pmDave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 8:11 amIronically, you can’t, because people said making multiple changes demeaned the competition. Just so I know where I'm up to, this is basically the Sherpa Van under a different name, right?

Aye, though tbf this is its proper name (the Sherpa Van equivalent would be to call it the leasing.com Trophy which we, quite rightly IMO, have not).Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 3:29 pmJust so I know where I'm up to, this is basically the Sherpa Van under a different name, right?
That's a q for aging people though. What were the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy first called when you heard of them?
Coca-cola and LDV Vans, for me.

Freight Rover Trophy for me, leading to my first Wembley visit in 1986. I didn't really care we were stuffed 3-0 by Bristol City. I was beyond incredulous that my team was playing at Wembley!Prufrock wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 3:39 pmAye, though tbf this is its proper name (the Sherpa Van equivalent would be to call it the leasing.com Trophy which we, quite rightly IMO, have not).Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 3:29 pmJust so I know where I'm up to, this is basically the Sherpa Van under a different name, right?

I think the early kick offs are designed to allow more kids to attend. I guess they have to be seen to be doing something to get back the crowds they've lost when devaluing the competition.

Same. Regarding the League Cup, it was just the League Cup when I was a boy. Then it became either the Milk Cup or the Rumbellows Cup. Can't quite remember the running order.Burnden Paddock wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 3:48 pm
