The athletics/running thread

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

Ran my fastest (or least slow ;) ) 5K sine Dec 2018 this morning, which was nice.

Good stuff. I puffed round a very slow 3 miles last night. At my least fittest in a good while I think!

Good work, you'll be skipping up that hill with a beaming smile when parkrun gets going again.

Nice one!

Not looking forward to tonight's run out on the parkrun course. It's gonna hurt!

Yeah it's ridiculous. Something pinged in my leg last time it was this hot about 4 weeks ago and still isn't fixed. Going stir crazy again.
I really fancy a swim and Boris has just said no to pools for ages yet! Still, saving a shed load with the kids swimming lessons and swim club fees (if we hadn’t had to spend it on car repairs)!

Leg sounds painful Pru. Shame, you were flying along fitness wise weren’t you?
Pool opening delayed again. Plenty of Open Water Swimming to choose from though.
You must be joking! 🥶
What? The temperature is 18 to 22 degrees in the water at the moment. Lovely

Plodded round 4 miles tonight. Decided if I’m going to be slow then I’ll try and up the mileage slowly instead.

Try ultra running. Them buggers walk most of it!

My second best time for the Bolton PR course since Jan 19 tonight, and 55 seconds per KM quicker (less slow) than this time last month. Oh trust me, it's really not as impressive as it sounds ;)

Or a triathlon where I can just cheat and get on my bike when I get knackered?

Back?! My last hills session was about 3 years ago.

Kids are back at school now. In theory I have time to run. Just need to work on my motivation. I hear from BP you’ve been getting out loads through Bruce. Nice stuff.

Cheers, GG. I've been getting out quite a lot but wussing out of the more difficult stuff

It's actually difficult to avoid hills round here, but between BP, Genshaw and I we seem to have discovered all the untroubled routes :D

With working at home just now it's usually fairly easy to be able to nip out for half an hour, and with the way things are looking here just now I might have no excuses for a wee while longer.

Now go and get yer trainers on. ;)

You motivated me Bruce. Now the kids are back at school this week I’ve no good excuse either so dusted off my running shorts that have been languishing in a drawer for the last month, grabbed my trainers and the dog and set off for a very slow, unfit, humid few miles. Hated every minute of it!

Before lockdown I’d been approached by a club mate at my club suggesting I enter the southern masters champs with him for triple jump. Obviously that didn’t happen and I wasn’t really in the right sort of form anyway but it’s good to have a dream and maybe now I’ve gone up an age group and I’m a V40 I should have a think about it. Have entered the masters Sussex champs a few time’s but there’s not a massive amount of competition so this would be a next step up. Believe it or not, back shortly after having my youngest i was jumping well enough to make top 15 in the country in my age group for both triple and high and I’d love to get to that sort of standard again. Can’t do much triple jumping at the moment obviously and my coach has cancer :( but if I can get a bit of strength into my legs and core over the winter from running and maybe incorporating some speed work then that’s a good basis for next year.i just have very little motivation. I need to get into the ‘habit’ again if that makes sense.
