Pre-Season Friendlies

Post by nicholaldo » Sat Aug 01, 2020 2:56 pm

It seems we're playing a pre-season friendly against Atherton Collieries this afternoon.

The starting line-up is apparently as follows:

Crillen (rumoured to be signing on a season-long loan from Fleetwood Town)

Hickman, Santos, Delaney, Taft, Gordon

Comley, Thomasson, Crawford

(trialist), Doyle

Politic has started the second half at right wing-back.

Lion of Vienna Suite's estimation of the teams:

Other notes, from the second half:

"Politic's scored. Playing cm now"
"Baptiste looking solid. Showcasing a good range of passing"
"A trialist striker just scored an absolute worldie. Baptiste played him in behind, took it round his man & cut back in. Top bins with his left foot."

Interesting to see Hickman (the ex-Cov lad) and Politic trialed at right wingback. Might just be filling spaces at the moment though. Brocky in midfield!

Some interesting thoughts with the names on show today. What would be everyone's thoughts if we did re-sign Baptiste and Bunney? And a possible re-role for Politic?
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!

And the key to a result is a good :kettle:

He's not getting about as much as he used to. He was practically everywhere a few years ago... :)

Just like in the early 80s, TonyD will have to put those flares away: the game at FCUM has been called off.

Apparently the trialist who scored the screamer was a player who sports a ‘top knot’ in his barnet... Any lower league oracles know who that might be?

Why has that friendly been called off? To stop people trying to go?

They haven’t said, but COVID-19 restrictions aren’t suspected. (Yes it’s behind closed doors but people still turn up.)

Web guessers gonna guess and many have suggested Ben Stephens, late of (Phoenix’s) Macclesfield, although he’s nominally a midfielder...

We've beaten Bamber Bridge 7-0 this afternoon

Delfouneso, Doyle, Faal, Amoateng (twice), Politic (penalty), and Gordon were the scorers.

This Amoateng is banging them in. Must be giving himself a good shot at getting a contract.

Match report
https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/1 ... ch-report/

Wanderers first half: Crellin; Santos, Delaney, Greenidge; Hickman, Comley, Crawford, White, Trialist; Delfouneso, Doyle.

Wanderers second half: Alexander; Brockbank, Baptiste, Taft; Jones, Sarcevic, Politic, Darcy (Graham 79), Gordon; Trialist, Faal (King-Harmes 79).

When I read the report a few minutes ago, it had Bunney named as playing in the first half, but it's now been amended to "trialist".

Nice to hear that Doyle 'n' Delfonce each set the other's goal up.

Also good balance in those XIs. (this nicked from LoV):

First-half is the stronger, with first-choice front three, while I'd also expect Crellin, Santos and Comley to be initial first-choices. However, second-half XI isn't just "and the rest" - sprinkled with others I'd expect to score, like Sarce, Gethin Jones and maybe even Flash Gordon (who scored).

The fact it was 2-0 at half-time suggests he'll get them fit but also keep them motivated to plough on.

I note Darcy played central midfield.

It seems Thomasson is on loan at Bamber Bridge as he apparently played against us.
