Re: Summer 2020 transfers
Should be, but that’s also about quality of delivery and plenty of training-ground drilling: mere height isn’t enough. Reekz has scored 8 times in 196, Taft 6 in 191, Delaney a rather better 14 in 149. By comparison, in Parky’s promotion season - with the manager working hard on set pieces and the Postman delivering unerringly - Wheater scored 9 in 43 league games, Beevers 7 in 45.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 6:27 pmShould be a handful at set pieces next season with this back line.
Which is not to say they shouldn’t be scoring (Crawford takes a good set piece) and just as importantly they “won’t get bullied at the back,” as one observer noted on Saturday. The very best teams don’t.

Never thought I'd hear anyone describe ole Zat as a Beastofficer_dibble wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 6:27 pmHe’s the same size as Zat Knight.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 5:14 pmWho was the last 'Beast at the Back' we had? A certain Mr Faye?
Evatt says he’s good on the ball as well - hope so cos a big strong centre half who can play is the Mecca of defenders for me! Should be a handful at set pieces next season with this back line.

In other words, a reasonably experienced wingback - maybe Hickman could be the promising young backup. Makes me think even more that we will haet a more experienced LWB (Bunney or McFadzean) to complement the exciting young Flash.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 10:47 pm
GETHIN JONES - Australian-born of Welsh descent, Wales U21 caps, converted from central midfielder to right-back (but can also play on the wing) while at Everton’s academy to take advantage of his pace. Now 24, he’s played about 100 lower-league games at Plymouth, Barnsley, Fleetwood, Mansfield and Carlisle, signing two short-term deals last season at the latter, where he finally got a run of games (averaging 31.3 passes and 66% accuracy) and said: “I’m a right back, although when I went on loan at Barnsley I was playing left-back then, and when I first came here I was playing on the right of a back three, which is something the old manager wanted me to do. It is easy [to adapt] because I’ve done it for three or four years now – I just have to get ready for it a few days before the game, because the body angles and stuff, in defending, are lot different, and if I’m going forward on the left, I’m right-footed and like to come in more and cross like that. But I’m adaptable, I’ll just do a job.”

Re: Summer 2020 transfers
According to LoV:
• the first-half trialist striker at Atherton was RHYS TURNER, ex of Morecambe
• second-half striker, who scored a worldie, BRIGHT AMOATENG, ex of Liverpool and Bury
• second-half trialist left centre-back was REISS GREENIDGE (brother of the ex-Stoke striker we were linked with)
More detail-digging when I have time.
EDIT couple more names from LoV
• ED FRANCIS played in the middle of the second-half back three. At Man City from age 6 to 19 then bought by Wolves, who lent him to Grasshoppers Zurich about half an hour before the COVID closedown.
• ANDREW TUTTE played in central midfield second half. Another ex-City lad, later played for Rochdale and Bury and most recently Morecambe.

Re: Summer 2020 transfers
Rhys Turner played under Evatt at Barrow before retiring after a number of injuries. Presumably he now feels fit enough to give it another go.
Rumour has it we also had Ed Francis and Andrew Tutte playing for us. Francis is a centre-back who can also play at left-back and defensive midfield, Tutte is a midfielder. The former is contracted to Wolverhampton Wanderers and the latter is a free agent having recently been released by Morecambe. Both are ex, or in the case of Francis possibly current, England youth internationals.

Re: Summer 2020 transfers
Being linked with players with an injury history always concerns me, we’ve wasted too much money on ‘glass knee’ types over the past few years. After a quick skim of the Morecambe forum, Andrew Tutte seems to be another who has struggled with injuries, restricting him to 30 odd appearances over the past two seasons.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 1:03 pmRhys Turner played under Evatt at Barrow before retiring after a number of injuries. With the wage cap and squad places at a premium there really is no room for passengers this season.

George Nurse has been linked too, full-back at Bristol City who was Newport last year and did very well there by all accounts

Jones:
Evatt:I’m really made up to have completed the move. It’s been in the pipeline for a few weeks and I’m glad it’s all done. Bolton is a massive a club and is a club that shouldn’t been in the division it is now. With it being so close to home and the size of the club, I thought it would be a perfect move for me. Hearing everything from the club, about where they want to go and how they want to play this season, I just felt like it was a perfect fit for me.
Iles:Gethin had a fantastic education where he came through Everton’s Academy and has all the attributes to play as an attacking wing back: pace, stamina, good movement and quality with the ball. He is another excellent acquisition for Bolton Wanderers and we are delighted to welcome him to the club.
