Got to say the only time I have seen Newport play is when they sent Leeds United back over the Bristol channel with their tails between their legs.
If they play this game like a cup game then we're in for a tough one. Really want to see us put them to the sword and push on.
2-1 to the whites.

They are likely to be on a high having beaten Watford 3-1 during the week: their third win on the run. I'll take a point, but expect an away win.

Expecting a tough game here...but they gotta gel sometime. No gimme goals would be an improvement.

If we come on again from last week then we're in with a shout. I'll go 2-1 Wanderers, with just the solitary terrible defensive error this time.

I'm going to assume it's a cultural reference I'm not familiar with. But I'm glad you've bothered, as I thought no one else would and the best I could come up with was "Newport. New dawn".
Anyway, the first goal is absolutely massive. If we get it, I think we win. If we don't, who knows?
I think we'll get it though, and hopefully, the garden will look that bit rosier come teatime.
2-0 or 2-1.

For you nichaldo, just coincidences with their nickname.

Ah, now I get it. Well, it's much better than my effort would've been.
It's a reference to our back four.

Remember the forum post from Brommers noting how the teams who dominated possession dominated this league last season? Here's the graph:
. .
Swindon, Plymouth, Crewe and our previous visitors FGR are all to the right and thus passy-passy, but swing your head left and look down the shallow end: Newport had the worst pass completion last year. That means they were either hopeless or long-ball, and the fact they finished mid-table means they weren't hopeless.
Furthermore, cop for this:
. .
No L2 team - not even Macc - scored fewer goals from open play last season than Newport's 15... but no team scored a bigger percentage of its goals from set-pieces.
So: unless their spots have changed over summer, they're long-ball and they live for set-pieces. The first bit is interesting tactically as so far we've mainly played teams who want possession, even if they can't match us for it. The second bit is frankly terrifying because if the oppo know how to win dangerous set-pieces and how to use them, we could get an ugly f*cking hiding.
I shall be tuning in (can you do that? There have certainly been times when I've wanted to bang the top of the screen) with hope in my heart but fear in my belly. I agree that one day we'll take the lead and boss the game, but unless we've significantly tidied up at the back – perhaps starting with dropping the big lad, or at least borrowing a crane and dangling him by his ankles from a floodlight until he promises to wake the f*ck up - I fear we may find a new way to lose today.

In that scenario, I'd beg: don't drop him. He'll make a hole in the yard.

Defensive change: Taft in for Baptiste. Two big lads.
And two new lads on the bench.
