Vale of tiers: Port Vale (H), Division Four, Sat 6 Dec @ 3pm
This weekend, other Football League clubs start to welcome back limited number of supporters, but Wanderers have no such privilege while the town remains in the government's COVID tier three. Football League tier three is the aim for the club, and the play-offs have been dragged into sight after five straight wins. It's five straight losses in the league for Port Vale, including to our recent conquests Scunny and Stevenage, with confidence possibly wounded after a home FA Cup defeat to Kings Lynn. Again, it's a game Wanderers will approach more in expectation than hope.
Here's what Ian Evatt had to say at this morning's presser:
Here's what Ian Evatt had to say at this morning's presser:
It’s a cliche but it’s all about the next game. Things change quickly in football. People look at Port Vale’s form and our form and think it’s a given. It’s certainly not a given and we have to be bang at it again on Saturday. We’ll focus on ourselves primarily. If we do what we can do to the ability that we can do then I’ve got every faith that we’ll get three points.
[on transfers] We’re proactive. We’re already looking ahead to the window and what’s available and what’s not. We’re looking at potentials ins and outs. Shaun Miller will be out until March or April. He picked up a thigh injury in training last Thursday. Harry Brockbank is back in training and nearing a return.
It’s obviously really challenging and teams need good fortune when it comes to injuries this season. We had a lot at the start of the season and we’re still getting them now. We want to keep the spine of the team fit.
Obviously the morale is a lot better than it was a month ago, but it’s time to go again and accelerate even more. There’s still lots of improvement to come.
We’ve made mistakes and I’ve made mistakes. We need to keep improving and progressing but we’ve still got a long way to go.

In Latin, "Vale" means farewell. In Spanish, it means "Fine, Okay". Lets hope we're fine in seeing off Port Vale this weekend. Good thread title D.S.B.

Living in a tier 2 area, I will be at an actual live game on Saturday (national league). However, I will, of course, be following our game very closely on the socials. Despite their poor run and our good one, Vale are only 3 pts behind us and have a one goal better GD. Because all good (and bad) things must come to an end, a draw wouldn't surprise me. But, I'll be more than happy with a scrappy 1-0 home win.

They deleted a load of old MySpace accounts about a year ago. A lad I play football with's emo/metal bands from his teenage years, Molten Slag and Dirtee Urges were sadly lost forever.

Excellent names, but the best I've seen was a death metal band which used to play at the Alma called Nonce Piss.

Meanwhile, Boss Evatt, sometimes known as Santa Claus, wants the players to suspend Christmas celebrations till May or so (B.N).....er, right.

It's not like footballers get much Christmas anyhow to be fair. They're usually playing in the lead-up, over boxing day, in between and just after New Year. T'was forever thus, so not sure what point is being made, other than "remember you're still working", which they all knew when they took the gig.

Yep, nowt new here, in fact it's not as bad as when they played the same teams home & away on Christmas and Boxing Day, as the venerable Tango may remember.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 11:03 amIt's not like footballers get much Christmas anyhow to be fair. It's an interesting BN piece though. They're staying at the hotel Christmas night before going up to Carlisle together.

He's gone for Thomason. Unchanged other than that.

Feels like a gamble but if you can’t gamble at league two after 4 wins on the bounce, when can you? Good luck to the lad, lets hope he shines.
Re: Vale of tiers: Port Vale (H), Division Four, Sat 6 Dec @ 3pm
Aye, pleased with that decision and hope the lad goes well. If he shows he can do the job maybe we can send White back in Jan to free up a squad space.

Amen to that. Or even flog Comley and keep White on an extended trial. But equally if he has a stinker let’s not pan him after one game!

So, come on then, can we stick another three goals and three points on the board? I'm for saying we can because the morale seems high and the players hungry, particularly Delf and Doyle. Yep. 3-0, maybe 4-0 to the Whites.
