Can we give the Cumbrians, the blues? Carlisle away Sat 26th Dec.3-0 clock.

Can we give the Cumbrians, the blues? Carlisle away Sat 26th Dec.3-0 clock.

Day after Christmas has always been a special fixture (saw my first game on that day a thousand years ago back when ale, brandy and cigar smoke were the odours of Christmas in all the pubs). Can we round off Christmas with the points up the north country with a football feast, or will it be a real Boxing match?

Not exactly one to look forward to - Iles notes in the local paper that this lot make Cheltenham look tippy-tappy.

But I shall be watching (a welcome break from working for double time), and hoping, and trusting the process.

Hope Tutte's back. Hope Kioso's back. Hope the ability that's got us six wins since Bonfire Night is back.

Long ball merchants then, DSB?

Another late winner then. 1-0 to Wanderers

Only been once. Midweek in the early '80s. Lost 5-0. Their "terracing" was wooden sleepers.

October 1987. A long time ago in a different world, and yet with some similarities. Not long out of life-threateningly serious financial trouble, and still operating in parsimony rather than plenty, Wanderers had found that life in the fourth tier was no cakewalk – notably with a 4-0 defeat at Scarborough, but they had also fallen to Torquay and, in the most recent game, Darlington. They were 13th when they welcomed Carlisle United – themselves barely a decade since a scarcely believable ascent to the top flight, but having suffered the ignominy of two successive relegations – came to the echoing surrounds of Burnden Park.

And we won 5-0.

Let's hope we win 5-0 again this time, although I'd settle for three...

But can you name the team from that day? That's right, it's Christmas Quiz Time!

100%!

A couple of surprises in there but the old noggin must still have some mileage left in it.

Did we draw the away game that season? I've got 2-2 in mind?

Good work. Nope, won 2-0. Drew 0-0 there in 86/87 (then won 2-0 at home).

We will lose this - 2-0 or 3-0 to Carlisle.

I've done most of the original 92 grounds - long before teams moved to identikit Lego stadiums built with IKEA leftovers. For the life of me I can't remember going to Brunton Park, I'm sure I have but there's no recollection there. I've never been since they built the lop-sided stand, if that helps. I've played hockey next door though....

Can anyone trigger a memorable game there which might prod my dead hard-drive of a brain into action?

Just not the same without a couple of beers in the pub before the match.

At the risk of stating the obvious, Tutte and Kioso would be huge returns for us. If they’re both back I’m going to go for a hard fought 1-0 win to the Whites.

TEAM NEWS

Tutte and Kioso in, Isgrove and Brocky on the bench

Dropping off the bench are Darcy and Mascoll, the latter possibly never to return

Hard fought it will be, whatever, but I'll go with you and allow us a 2 goal win. :oyea: :oyea:

Darcy must really be doing something in training that Evatt doesn’t like. There must be a chance he’s sent on loan in Jan if he continues to be overlooked.
