Is football not a man's field? Away @ the Stags 26th Jan 2021

Post by DJBlu » Tue Jan 26, 2021 10:46 am

Call me stupid, call me daft
Why oh why did we loan George Taft.
Delaney, clumsy, slow, he's no artist
And now we're left with Alex Baptiste,
No sign of Lee nor Declan John
However the game is there to be won.
How we'll do it I'll never know,
But come on Bolton give it a go!

Predictions?

I don't know why but I think the last result and refereeing debacle may have ignited something in Evatt.

They're on a great run and we're not.

0-1 to the Whites.

We've tried a three,
We've tried a four,
But won just once,
In nine for sure.

We have a plan,
And project too,
I just don't see it,
Nor can you.

The football's poor
And not much fun
But will Mansfield start
a promotion run?

Doubt it here - 1-1.

I very nearly started this thread at 3am with the title “A heartbreaking work of Stag-gering mediocrity” but I just read a book instead.

First game this season I’ve gone in with more fear than hope. First I’ve expected us to lose. Guess I can cling to the notion that we have played better against the better teams, and Mansfield - while mid table ish overall - are the form team. Beating Southend 1-0 is hardly juggernaut stuff but we need some wins like that. Funny old division, but we could do with a few more smiles.

Last time we played a Nigel Clough team, at Burton, was the most dismal abject surrender I’ve ever seen in all my years of watching Bolton: a total absence of attacking intent badly welded to an incapable defence. So I hope it’s better than that.

Groundhog Day, 3-1 win for Mansfield. Same early goal for them, usual lethargic slow start from Bolton, same we only play with tempo & intensity for 15-20 mins in the 2nd half, usual powderpuff non aggressive play from Bolton, same 'we should have won' excuses & bullshit from Evatt post match.

Question is Bertie - will it be 1-1 in the 81st minute and we collapse in a heap or are they going three up and we grab a consolation back? :-)

Apparently the game is free streaming on SkyBet tonight. Unusual platform to put it on.

I'm going to watch it, with a due sense of trepidation and dread.
Not watched an away for a bit. Expect more changes, whether they're sensible or bingo ball we will see.

I keep saying it but anyone can beat anyone in this league. I recall us snatching an undeserved point against this lot earlier and I fully expect some form of retribution. But owts possible😄

Starting line up...
Gilkes, Santos, Jones, Jackson (when is John back?), Sarce, Doyle all certain to start (though Sarce really owes us a 90 minutes).
Tutte will surely play.
Thomason for Crawford? He doesn’t give a shite.
Baptiste or Greenidge! I’d go Baptiste. Or is there a chance we go back 3? I think he will stick with 4 for now.
Isgrove and Arthur up top? I think the Lincoln lad will get dropped. Possibly Delf to come in as well?

Mansfield was a bookies favorite for promotion along with us and Salford. They had a disastrous start like ourselves, if not worse, and while we stuck with the "project" they made a changed Manager in November, brought in Clough. Been on a purple patch since then, while we continue to struggle with our "project". Hoping for a miracle today.

I suspect it would have been 3-0 and we grab a consolation in the 81st min.

But as it is they have managed not to lose tonight, so that's progress !

Presumably Delaneys ban rolls over onto Saturday now?

Mansfield's groundsman has tweeted that the pitch is perfectly playable, was called off at 12.30pm but was perfectly playable by 4pm - we need to thank the ref for the early postponement which has saved an inevitable loss.
