You're assuming we're paying money, which may not be the case with a loanee; furthermore, if Fleetwood won't take Crellin back he might still be hanging around. But it's a fair point mate. I still fear the loss of Gilks as a defensive organiser: no point getting a silent shot-stopper, no matter how good, behind a defensive rabble.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 11:48 amIf we're sticking with one GK just go with Gilks...and save the money.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 11:41 amAnother option is to deregister Gilks if we get cover. Risky, though.
Official confirmation that Jayson Leutwiler's signed for Huddersfield, by the way.

My thought is that Gilks is perfectly fine and as you say seems to have a crucial organisational role. The risk is we've no real cover. But therefore, if to sign someone we had to de-register Gilks then you're back to square one. I'd say no point signing a keeper unless its to ensure we've got Gilks as a backup - and said keeper is an improvement on Gilks. The likelihood of us being involved in any real end of season critical games where we might rue not having a keeper as backup is low and probably contingent on improvement elsewhere.....Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 11:52 amYou're assuming we're paying money, which may not be the case with a loanee; furthermore, if Fleetwood won't take Crellin back he might still be hanging around. Again, fair enough. Guess it depends if the incoming keeper counts towards the quota - ie was born on or after January 1, 1999.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 11:56 amMy thought is that Gilks is perfectly fine and as you say seems to have a crucial organisational role. Iles - "Links starting to emerge on Blackpool midfielder MJ Williams. Nothing confirmed from the club - but I think there is mileage in this one."
25, six-foot central midfielder/centre-back, contract up in summer, came through Liverpool academy, played for Notts County, Swindon and Rochdale as well as Blackpool. Could talk to Jak Hickman about social media wisdom - in his case an ill-advised tweet referencing a certain air disaster.

Not really a surprise but Lancs Telegraph reporting on their Deadline Day blog that Tom White will be going back to Blackburn

Wonder if there's a swapsie possibility with Blackburn (local, Evatt knows them well) or whether that bridge is singed by White

"We understand Scunthorpe United are close to turning George Taft’s loan move into a permanent deal."

Interesting that Danny Guthrie has left Walsall by mutual consent. Iles says that we're in for an experienced CM on a permanent, who has played this season - could it be Guthrie. Hasn't exactly had rave reviews from Walsall fans this season

While I would have liked to have seen him more this season and prefer him over Greenidge, I can't say I'm that fussed. He seems to be an okay CB for this league but nothing special - a decent player for a bit of squad depth but if we really want to be taking this league by storm next season I think we should be looking for better.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 12:32 pm"We understand Scunthorpe United are close to turning George Taft’s loan move into a permanent deal."

Scunthorpe conceded 2 goals in 5 outings, since Taft signed...

Lordy. Always interesting to see who leaves clubs on deadline day. Guthrie turns 34 in April (and was playing in Indonesia pre-Walsall) but I suspect we're looking at short-term signings in this window.brommers95 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 12:37 pmInteresting that Danny Guthrie has left Walsall by mutual consent. In vaguely related news, James Sinclair retired this week after a 17-year career - man that makes me feel old

He didn't exactly get rave reviews from Bolton fans, when he was here, either!brommers95 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 12:37 pmInteresting that Danny Guthrie has left Walsall by mutual consent. Taft's loan agreement is reportedly close to being made permanent.

Maybe it's fanciful to think we could ask for a fee, but he does have 18 months left on his contract and Scunthorpe are a direct rival...nicholaldo wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 12:43 pmTaft's loan agreement is reportedly close to being made permanent.

I dount any clubs at this level are paying transfer fees in the current climate.

Worth noting that Taft leaving doesn't clear a squad space, because he was already on loan and thus registered elsewhere. What it might do is clear some wages off the bill – and it's possible that he was on one of the better whacks outside the (presumed) Doyle/Sarce/Delf level.

It also seemed that, for whatever reason, there was no prospect of him returning. If another club is willing to rid us of our financial obligations for the next eighteen months then it makes sense for him to go now.

Nixon:
"Bolton. New keeper. Lukas Jensen from Burnley. No relation"
6ft 6in, born March 1999 (thus wouldn't count toward quota)
Burnley contract up in summer but they have a year's option
LoV notes he hasn't played for their U23s today (playing now) - he's played for that team 7 times this season but not Burnley's first team yet (played in Denmark before they signed him in Sep 2019)

said this in Sep (2020):
"He was vocal throughout... regularly encouraging the defence to play a higher line, while his height and confidence meant he dealt superbly with any crosses into the box""I definitely want to be loaned out, because that's where I can show myself. There is something else at stake when playing in an 'adult series' of promotion or relegation.
"I also do not want to reject a loan stay in a lower division with lots of playing time, where you can then play on to something bigger, so you take the small steps instead of being thrown directly onto the big stage.
"Whether it will be League One, League Two or the Superligaen, which could also be a great opportunity, because it is also a really good series, we have to see."

Could we have threatened to recall him and send them Greenidge instead?
