Re: Can we press on against the Iron? Scunthorpe (H) 23.2.21 7pm KO
Evatt: “I’d like us to be more comfortable in games to give some rest, especially those like Doyle and Ricardo Santos who have played all season, but we have done really well of late. We’re not resting on our laurels. We know what we need to do.”
Baps is doing well to play two games a week, although with the defence being well protected he's not having to tear about the place as much. Delaney is a different type of player - brave, because he has to be reactive, because he doesn't read the game as well - so I think it would be more needs-must than the sort of rotation we're seeing in midfield. Brockbank is a possibility but like Baptiste is only 5ft11; he couldn't partner Bap but could *possibly* stand in for him if he impressed enough in training.
One idea, which may sound like robbing Peter to pay Paul, is that MJ Williams could drop in there. He's played in central defence before and intriguingly last week Evatt mentioned him in a list of possible centre-backs which did not include Reiss Greenidge. I'd argue we have better strength in depth in defensive midfield (Lee, Tutte, Tomo). I'm fairly sure that's in Evatt's back pocket considering we haven't had a centre-back on the bench for the last five games.

I would not move MJ. His protection is helping the back four out. Delaney is ok but seems to struggle with the odd mindless blooper. I'd rather put Greenidge in that start messing players around and disrupting your team. Minimal changes for me. When you're on a roll keep everything as similar as possible.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 10:29 amEvatt: “I’d like us to be more comfortable in games to give some rest, especially those like Doyle and Ricardo Santos who have played all season, but we have done really well of late. Re: Can we press on against the Iron? Scunthorpe (H) 23.2.21 7pm KO
I'd rather not move MJ, but I'm not sure I trust Delaney – in the six games since he left the team we've gone WDWWWW, in the previous six we were LDLDDL – and I sure as hell worry about Greenidge.
I wouldn't change the centre-backs unless we really had to, even while welcoming the midfield/attack rotation that's keeping us fresh right to the finish. But if a situation dawns where we have to make a change, it's not so much about "freezing as much as possible" as "best possible options" and I think the risk/benefit on Tomo/Tutte/Lee is better than Delaney or particularly Greenidge.
As I say, it may happen mid-game if (God forbid) Santos or Baptiste have to leave the field - MJ would drop in and we'd get a taster which would inform our decision for subsequent matches. And indeed, if we ever get two or three up comfortably early, we could switch MJ back for the last half-hour to see how it goes.

Don't we have a centre half on trial?
I can't recall his name but I think he's still with us.

It would be nice just to be able to take Santos off for half an hour every now and then. He's the only player we can't afford an injury to.
I absolutely agree that we need to be starting our best players every game, but given the extremely congested run-in, squad/game management is going to become incredibly important.

Joel Lynch - by the sounds of the latest Iles update we're going to pass on him.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 12:05 pmDon't we have a centre half on trial?

Evatt has also confirmed that ex-Sunderland and QPR defender Joel Lynch has not returned to the training ground, with Wanderers now unlikely to pursue the free agent.
The 33-year-old had been staying at the club’s hotel up until last week, when the lack of training sessions in between the two away games made it impractical to remain at the UniBol.
“He’s not training with us at the moment,” Evatt said. “We are really considering our position on it now and deciding what we want to do.”

Missed this the other day but here's Evatt: "I think if you look at Manfield’s result on Saturday getting beat 3-0 at home and I listened to Nigel Clough’s interview after the game, just for entertainment purposes more than anything else, but he made a clear reference to the amount of effort they had to put in to play against us on Wednesday and the energy that took out of his team."nicholaldo wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 8:43 pmAnother fluke goal, no doubt.

I’m really mot too worried about Delaney. He was involved in our previous good run. Had a rough patch but I think the presence of MJ and John, and a more solid shape about us means he would be OK. Would I worry about missing Santos or Baptiste, yes, but this is still league two and Evatt chose Delaney over Taft effectively. If we collapsed and started losing games again that would be the issue...injuries are part and parcel of football.

That'll all soon change if he shifts MJW out of the Warhurst role though - absolute madness!

I think this weeks Nigel Clough is Scunthorpe fans complaining about the Bolton FM commentary being biased towards...ummm...Bolton

Evatt does seem to have been playing to the gallery a bit. I like it when we're winning.

Currently, we've got the best record in this League over the last five games. Barrow have one of the worst over the same, so a chance to strengthen our position if we take it.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 6:33 pmEvatt does seem to have been playing to the gallery a bit. Pretty sure it's the first time I've watched the midweek edition; wished I hadn't when the alarm went off this morning though. Likewise, I haven't even been watching the Saturday one this season either...………………. until nowHarry Genshaw wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 3:26 pmThe sky channel that shows all the EFL goals at 9pm on a Saturday.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 3:11 pmWhilst we are making admissions - I have literally no idea what that is...Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 1:01 pmIndeed. Re: Can we press on against the Iron? Scunthorpe (H) 23.2.21 7pm KO
From what I've seen, it's a decent show; I like that they get writers and specialists in (as well as 'EFL legends') as pundits, rather than just another ex-Prem pro coasting his way towards the Sky seats. Colin Murray's a decent bloke and seems to know his stuff – his Metro column's good too (or was, last time I was on public transport, which feels like round about the time Queen Victoria hopped the twig).
I will admit, though, that I usually only watch our highlights, and maybe our next opponents' if I'm keen enough. That's not a fault of the programme - I'm just not that bothered about watching non-BWFC football these days, it's a bit of a chore just to keep up with the MOTDs.
