He's more adept at that role than Jones from the looks of it.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 4:34 pm
I'm not sure there's much to be read into it.
Sadlier isn't a wing-back. We've just replaced one defender with another.
That being said I think it's probably a case of Evatt wanting Jones to feel included but not wanting to adjust the defence that has been working well since Toal came in.
I'd be keen on taking Bradley off though if he decides to be a bit daft with his final third passing.
Brilliant goal from Bolton there. Told ya Dempsey was playing well. What a goal!

Beautiful, beautiful goal. One of the best this season. Stunner.

Olés for every pass in that build-up. Great play and tidy finish from Demps. Get in!

I think that's probably fair.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 4:38 pmEvatt said himself of picking him v Lincoln, Sadlier is there when we want to attack the oppo. If the manager brings on a winger as a wingback and we get murdered down that flank, the gaffer would be called an idiot. I'm sure he'll be lauded if we win... which looks likely now
I'd just hope that we've not mis-sold the game time to Sadlier. If he's happy for that role then we've got a good option to come off the bench. Hasn't taken his chance when starting matches, but I think we'd be worse off if he wasn't listed in the matchday squad.

Is this the new kettle? Seems effective but how are your energy bills with these scorelines?

He's only more adept at the role if you ignore the defensive aspect of it.
The suggestions seemed to be that replacing Iredale with Jones rather than Sadlier means we were content to sit on the lead and shut up shop, when really I think we just went for as close to a like-for-like change as possible.

Delighted for him. He's this season's 'there's a player in there somewhere' player.

Wanderers sub: Sadlier for Bradley, Sheehan for Lee.

Maybe I should've specified him being more adept at the LWB role rather than defending in general. Jones is the better defender, Sadlier the better attacker, Jones better on the right, Sadlier seemingly good with both.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 4:41 pmHe's only more adept at the role if you ignore the defensive aspect of it.

I'd've preferred Sadlier on the left over Jones, but we'd have to expect Jones to be competent in that position.

Right, but we started with Iredale, who's more of a full-back than a wing-back, and replaced him with Jones, who's also more of a full-back than a wing-back, which was my point.
It was as close to a like-for-like change as we could make. It wasn't us deciding to just sit back on the lead by bringing on a morrle defensively minded player than the one coming off.

I'm pretty sure that no-one's expecting Dempsey to display the slightest defensive ability, nor inclination.
Against Derby, Evatt's thinking was fairly clear, I thought, when he took both Lee and Sheehan off, and replaced them with Dempsey to carry it forward, and Williams to mop up after he'd inevitably get caught in possession.

What a goal that would've been from Morley. Backheel from Dempsey, outside boot cross by Sadlier and a long shot by Morley would've been the icing on the cake.
I'm hoping Baka gets one here. Its been a while.

The claim in the post I replied to was that Sadlier is more adept at the wing-back role than Jones.

Obviously the red card had a significant impact on proceedings, but I really like us having height in the defensive line, energy in midfield, and a centre forward partnership of a a bigger one and a smaller one.
We might've stumbled upon a winning combination.
