Going for the full Nelson? Away to Portsmouth Mon, 11th Dec, 8-o'clock.
Three points behind but a game in hand and it's already a wrestling match at the top. One things for sure, it won't be a "Kiss me Hardy" affair at Fratton Park come Monday. The Whites' should be champing at the bit from too long without a game so can we sail away with the points? A draw won't put us back as top dogs and we certainly don't even contemplate losing. " I see no ships" the man said, but we need to sail full bore at the Pompey armada. Nothing less will do must be the target. So, load the cannons and stand by to repel boarders...Up and at em....

Horrible fixture, to be honest. Long journey down and then playing late at night on a Monday. Logistically it's awful for the team.
Then you've got the chance that the usual wankers will jump on a loss as a sign the team can't cope mentally or whatever other nonsense they'll throw out.
It's under the lights and on national TV, so Fratton Park will be an absolute cauldron and we've not won there since 2009.
Luckily, we're obviously going to win at a canter and cement ourselves as promotion favourites. Easy 3 points...

Just Sky making the toughest fixture of the season even tougher. It'll just make it sweeter when we win

We’ve nowt to fear. Whatever the result the team has done well enough to earn itself some slack at the moment. As you say it’s not a happy hunting ground…plus there’s the old manager of the month curse.

Fact he's won it twice on the bounce suggests the curse may be overplayedofficer_dibble wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 12:40 pmWe’ve nowt to fear. Bit like the Oxford game, obviously you want to win both, but 2 aways to top 3 sides, if we give a good account of ourselves, I suspect there won't be a shedload of pi$$ and wind, whatever the result, especially as we're still likely in touch...The problem is more likely to occur, if we look like half-assed and we're not at the races, at which point I'm fine with commitment being questioned on a "per game" basis.
We are currently in front on points gained to our 18 game tallies in 2016, 2000, 1996 and 1994, closest was 1996 on 38.
In terms of goals scored, we're in front of those 4 too, with the closest being 1994 with 31.

A gig, some leftover annual leave and Sky mean I'm setting off for this tomorrow. I'm surprisingly confident. Certainly as said ^, there's nothing to fear. That 96/97 side got asked lots of difficult questions along the way and slapped them all back down. I'm not sure that this current team have the same confidence, bordering on arrogance, that that side had but a win here will draw more interesting parallels.
1-0 win
1-0 win

Make that 2-0 H.G. 1 up is always a nervous position to be in.. Two up means we can afford to keep playing football instead of just parking the bus. With Dan out of it, maybe Jon-Bod will get a start with Dion.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 6:29 pmA gig, some leftover annual leave and Sky mean I'm setting off for this tomorrow. The couch is up and running, I'm watching Posh vs Oxford if anyone wishes to join me.
Posh currently 2 up.

How things now stand...
If we win we start to look very handy, in terms of the autos. If we lose Pompey will go 7 clear of Posh and 6 clear of Stevenage (with a game in hand on the latter). At that stage you'd fancy them to build a head of steam.
It's a long way from a "must win" game, but oh lord would it make more of a difference than just 3 points.

Oxford were woeful in the first half but I thought they improved in the second.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 5:17 pmCaught the second half, thanks. Really interesting viewing.

Yes, so the commentators said. They were still bloody awful, in terms of playing in a way that would mean they might get a result.
They did everything Posh wanted them to do and should have been caught more.
Saying that, they had two nailed-on penalties denied.

Colby Bishop out for three to four weeks, per Pompey manager Mousinho.
