Evatts win ratio is 52%. Best of any modern day manager at Bolton. Might mean he knows a thing or two.

There are only 9 League 1 players who currently have more league goals and one of them is ours...GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 11:13 amYesterday's goal cemented Vic's position as the 3rd most efficient non-pen goal scorer of any regular starter under Evatt.
The two to outperform him are Dion this season and Dad Bod when he first got here.
If we can get Bod back anywhere close to that goalscoring form we absolutely will go up.

I think he's also the 2nd most efficient striker in English football. 7 goals from 18 efforts.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 11:51 amThere are only 9 League 1 players who currently have more league goals and one of them is ours...
Only person currently better is Chris Wood off the back of that hattrick against Toon.
Martin at Bristol is up there too, but the stats from a couple of Bristol games didn't get processed properly, so not sure if he's 3rd or pips Vic slightly.

Pretty sure it's only a matter of time before Bod hits the onion bag. To be honest, team goals and performances are the most important factor rather than singling any individual out. At that, we're pretty strong. The celebrations at scoring a goal are a sure sign of our togetherness as a team.

Getting more team goals now means figuring out how to play to the strengths of the individuals in the 11.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 12:07 pmPretty sure it's only a matter of time before Bod hits the onion bag. What's missing? How do we deliver it? Where are we weak and how do we strengthen?
A lot of what we need is already in this squad. Some isn't.
Dan's injury and CMG's issues (injuries and call-ups) are buggerances.
Main issue aside from them is the lack of dribbling from wide areas. Bradley was offering us 1.4 dribbles per game off the right. Now we're on 0.5 off the left and 0.3 off the right. The fact we can't take a fullback on or stream up the flank is slowing us down and denying us goals.
We're not carrying any of the current lot. That alone is massive. Just need to kick on now.

Aye but if you're suggesting Wood is only there on the back of a HT, then you should recognise that just under 50% of Vic's goals were also off a HT (which I suspect was pretty "efficient," too.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 12:03 pmI think he's also the 2nd most efficient striker in English football. 7 goals from 18 efforts.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 11:51 amThere are only 9 League 1 players who currently have more league goals and one of them is ours...

Not at all, just that Wood was excellent in that game and it's forced him right up that metric.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 2:20 pmAye but if you're suggesting Wood is only there on the back of a HT, then you should recognise that just under 50% of Vic's goals were also off a HT (which I suspect was pretty "efficient," too.

I’m not sure that measuring efficiency on fairly small samples makes sense.

18 months now for Vic being one of the most efficient strikers in English football. Between a 35% and 38% conversion rate, depending on which data provider underpins your numbers and how they measure things. A season and half consistently at that roughly 1 goal for every 3 shots level, using the most conservative numbers I could find. Data from 65 matches and 51 starts, I think it is.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 3:03 pmI’m not sure that measuring efficiency on fairly small samples makes sense.
How long does it need before it's no longer a small sample and he's just very efficient?

He was sacked by Sunderland after we mullered them 6-0.

It’s not the time period it’s the very low effort count that I think potentially means it’s quite a low sample.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 3:25 pm18 months now for Vic being one of the most efficient strikers in English football. So a player can't actually be said to be efficient? Or can only be efficient if they're scoring 40-50 a season from at least, what, 150 shots?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 3:49 pmIt’s not the time period it’s the very low effort count that I think potentially means it’s quite a low sample.
It feels like the issue is that the data shows Vic is good, rather than a flaw in the very concept of an efficient goal-scorer.

Yup. Excellent runs met with excellent delivery. I feel like Lineker and Shearer need to pop up at this point and defend the value of a striker who scores tap ins.

I shall add "efficient" to my list of Salford Sunday League LB attributes. It was a belter!
I think there probably is a cut off for low sample rates. Similar to how King Arthur and Baka we excluded from the "Evatt's best forwards" list.. No idea what it would be though...
As for tap ins, I don't care, if you have the nous to be in the right place, good luck to you...
