MUSIC HIGH NOTE.
For me anyway, the playing of the Polovskyan Dances from Borodin's Prince Igor after the Germany Sweden game.
(Better know to most as "Stranger in Paradise) Brilliant.

Excellent Bertie. A man of good taste obviously. I was just reaching for Scheherazade when tea called. Concierto Aranjuez on at the moment. Classical gems.Bertie wrote:Borodin is brilliant. As are Stravinsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Prokofiev, Mussorgsky, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky.

Ah, Scheherazade. Only equalled by Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet. And The Firebird.TANGODANCER wrote:Excellent Bertie. A man of good taste obviously. I like Il Canto degli Italiani whenever the Azurri come out. You don't mind if I turn this into a 'What's your favourite World Cup national anthem?' thread do you, as these additional musical interludes you seem to be referring to have passed me by?

Boo, gedoff. That's for the World Cup forum. We are talking real music here. When a team has "Mars, the god of war' or 'Bolero' as an anthem I'll vote.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:I like Il Canto degli Italiani whenever the Azurri come out. In that case, I'll make the effort to listen out a bit more carefully..TANGODANCER wrote:Boo, gedoff. That's for the World Cup forum. We are talking real music here. Maybe Mussorgsky's The Great Gate of Kiev could be played as England come on to the field.
Well . . . it does come from a piece about an exhibition and reflects well the team's ponderous performances to date.
As for Australia? I don't know. Perhaps The Donkey Serenade? (Friml or Dvorak - I can never remember).
