Crap Towns
what is the worst town you have been to?
Re: Crap Towns
Bolton is pretty gash to be fair, the precinct is a joke. Ruined by scallies, charity shops and pound stores.

Whitehaven and Barrow are up there with the best of them. Can't think of any redeeming features.
North Wales when you couldn't get a beer on a Sunday, not that I'm much keener on Wales now.

Sin City, old town it is very dangerous
Re: Crap Towns
Yeah you have left yourself wide open there.
Bolton is becoming a ghost town.
Even on a Saturday afternoon its f33ckin empty (other than preachers and emigrants )
Me and the Missus have started to go to Wiggin for a day shopping, cos it far better than asylum seekers central.
R.I.P. BOLTON.

Re: Crap Towns
Internationally - Juba in Southern Sudan - the poorest place I've ever seen... Unbelievably, dreadfully poor... children naked or in rags... families living under trees... lepers begging...
In England... Morecambe in January with the wind and rain whipping in from the sea, the streets deserted, and the junkies on the bus station trying to fight or being sick... The most spiritually depressing...
In 'Greater Manchester' - Oldham on a Friday night, at seven o clock, with White and Asian gangs assembling on street corners, eyeing each other up nastily... and then at half ten (after having seen a play between the two times)... the streets by the theatre full of vomit and the same two gangs winding up with violent racial confrontation looking imminent...
Well, that litany cheered me up...

Re: Crap Towns
The worst large town in Britain, imho, is Middlesbrough. All your preconceptions are met, and sum & it has no reedeeming features whatsoever.
Small/medium town - Merthr Tydfyl. Unspeakable, unremitingly awful. The place fills you with desparation.
Smaller again - the Cleator Moor area of West Cumbria (& yes, West Cumbria altogether tbh) is challenged only by Blaenau Ffestiniog. If it's not raining there you've misread the signs and are elsewhere, coz it is constantly doing so. Slate tips, desolation, greyness and the Welsh language to boot.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Interesting how quick people are to forget all that's magnificent about our town centre in their haste to point at Poundland.P.O.S. wrote:Bolton is pretty gash to be fair, the precinct is a joke. Ruined by scallies, charity shops and pound stores.
Take a trip to Stockton and Middlesbrough if you want to see real shitholes!

I lived in Burscough for a year, what a backwards shitheap drive-through crap-pile that place is.
I walked in a pub and i swear the jukebox stopped and the balls on the pool table stopped moving..

Re: Crap Towns
And the BB vote goes to........Middlesborough. The only place I've ever walked round where I felt anxious (And I've done night shifts in Moss Side and Longsight), threatened and a tad scared. It was 2pm in the afternoon.
My home town vote is split between Farnworth (It's always been a grim, grim place) or Little Lever, where they still point at aeroplanes and everyone seems to be related. Mind you, that also describes Hindley and on balance, Hindley has it.

We had a visitor over from Canada last year for a week. They were obsessed with the Bolton town hall. Wanted to go in every day just to look at it.......thebish wrote:people being very quick to slag off the north here...
All down to perceptions I guess.....
