There are two today that (imho) are special. The first because of its no-shxt-sherlock wonderfulness, the second just is:

Bed shortages ‘harming patients’

Hamster found wandering in blizzard

:D The second is what I consider great type of news. Reminds me of a headline on the front of the IoW County Press a few years back - Dog bites car! (Driver unharmed)

This is Devon wrote: Man tried making love to an ambulance in Barnstaple bus station

The court heard he was "in relatively high spirits" and said he was going home to sober up.
But he was then spotted on CCTV in a phone box setting light to a packet of peanuts while also punching them
He then approached a nearby ambulance and spread himself in front of it.
Mark Haddow, for the prosecution, said the attending police officer commented: "It looks as though he is attempting to make love to the front of the ambulance."
I've been there myself, they're buggers to open them peanuts.

Freak weather hits UAE: More rain, temperature dips to 10°C

The talk about rain lashing down. It was spitting

It was 10°C. Yes, in one place at the top of a mountain miles from anywhere. Reality was nearer 20°C + for 99.9% of the population...

That in order to be divorced you just say you are is a very Islamic concept. Marvellous, I'm amazed any marriages last longer than two years. But then again, if you've got more than one wife I suppose a quick get out clause is always desirable.

UK and local news with a map of fecking Thailand as the picture. That's nuts - which needs burning and thumping along with the other nuts mentioned previously.

Because if you need to illustrate a story with a map of Thailand then it would probably be more logical to place said news story under the World News, Asia section. It's like when anything happens, e.g. the Tsunami - it was Japanese news, but I guarantee that pick a village anywhere in the world and they'd link some local aspect to it - "Teenager killed in tsunami was once taught to play guitar by Mrs Rogers" - but it doesn't make it local news. Local news is when local stuff happens to local people in the locality. If it happens in Kenya it's Kenyan news. That's why it's nuts.

so the NZ-England cricket stories should be located in the World Sport section?

as for finding a local connection to anything that happens anywhere... the Welsh "Western Mail" is the absolute master in this regard - utter genius!! :D
