We're going to visit the queen
So after another home draw we look foreword to our away trip against Reading. So who's in? if any of you want any advice on travel or best away friendly pub give me a shout. I should warn that most of the area around Reading is swamped at the moment with most areas anywhere near the river several feet under water so would recommend getting the train especially as there is more rain forecast.

Where? I was going to recommend the three guineas right outside the station. Insert from the football ground guide :'The Three Guineas on the station approach has been designated as an away fans pub. It offers a range of eight real ales and is listed in the CAMRA good beer guide. It has a big screen Sky TV and it also does food'. Will Butler a visiting Norwich City fan tells me; 'We were warmly welcomed at the Three Guineas Pub next to the train station. It has Sky Sports, and serves decent grub. The only thing they ask when you enter the pub is that you take your hat off!'

And as Al Murray would say, warm beer with twigs in it.

Yeah, but it should price out the lager-drinking scallies, so it'll do for me I think .

Can I just shock you? I like CAMRA. In any one weekend I might go to 9 CAMRA pubs.Prufrock wrote:Yeah, but it should price out the lager-drinking scallies, so it'll do for me I think .
If I make it down there it sounds like that's where I'll turn up. Who is going?

I was drinking before the invention of British lager, so real ale, well mild and bitter ("Mixed") was my drink fropm my youthful days. Hint. Google "Bite Card" and get yourself one. Most rail stations offer a 20% discount to holders. I've used mine from Lands End to Carlisle many times. I used to stay in Reading, not a bad gaff but as Dan says, it's a bit damp at the moment.
Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man and let history make up its own mind.
Re: We're going to visit the queen
Don't go south of the river or you will drown. The pub is where most away fans who visit Reading drink. Would also recommend Sweeney Todd (a pie shop), the only decent pie shop I have found in the south of England.

Isn't the station 100m south of the river ?
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Don't worry. It's only 4 lengths. Those with their badges will manage I'm sure
Re: We're going to visit the queen
Yes your right my mistake, Caversham (which is on the north river bank) is several feet under water.bobo the clown wrote:Isn't the station 100m south of the river ?

No is the answer I have found, sorry Bruce. Reading may have broken Oscar Wilde but will it break Dougie?

For the work-blocked, Dougie says:
"He said to me he felt his hamstring when he back-heeled the ball. But it wasn’t when he was running so my experience tells me it’s a smaller grade. Hopefully, we will get away with a week to 10 days after he has seen the doctor."
Also interesting to note "I started with two ‘high’ strikers and even though I consider Andre [Moritz] to be a striker..."

Right, me and young Miss GtE are going to this.
We'll win. Barnsley away for our last game so expecting a result.
