Certainly not his last words but he did say it when ask to approve the addition of Regis to the town name in 1928. His actually last words were reported to be "God damn you" to a nurse administering a sedative (thought to be euthanasia in some quarters).Bruce Rioja wrote:No. After the supposed last words of George V.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:After the Luke Haines song?Bruce Rioja wrote:As a complete aside (and this is your fault ) Some years ago when a mate and I were thinking about putting a band together my idea was that we should call ourselves 'Bugger Bognor'. As you were.

The story I - and I suspect many others - heard was that on his deathbed, trying to cheer him, someone said as soon as he got better they could all go to Bognor... His response, and last words, were 'bugger Bognor'.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Certainly not his last words but he did say it when ask to approve the addition of Regis to the town name in 1928. Even if this is not true it is much more satisfying than the alternative offering 'God damn you', and, for literary and aesthetic reasons should continue to be promoted.
I also like the (disputed) last words of Pitt the Younger - 'I think I would like one of Bellamy's veal pies', which is much more satisfying than the alternative - 'my country, oh, my country...'

^^ He really should have said, given that his father had died 26 years previously and he himself was by then 47, "I do wish they'd stop calling me 'the Younger' ... I mean, c'mon ... give a guy a break .... ".
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

My one trip to Bloomfield Road was part of a long weekend taking in the delights of the Golden Mile.
Stayed at Pontins, the cabaret was Ted & Spike I think, may have been a Gladys there somewhere.
Shocking place.
Weekend was a good un though, think we won, think I may have got lucky.

I went on a very, very cold Boxing Day in 1977 or '78. Won, I think 3-0. Allardyce was involved.
Went on the train ... me getting on at Blackrod. Got merrily pissed in Yates, drank draught champagne (I shit you not) from big wooden vats behind the bar. Walked down to the ground and got in late as we only left Yates's at Central around 10 to 3.
It was fckg packed. Could barely move. At one stage someone decided they'd never squeeze through to the bogs so pissed where they were .... down by brand new Levi's. Queue me getting into some verbals ... never great with a guy with his knob in his hand at the time. His mate gave me some back, my mates joined in and soon there was a scrap in our own end. Police waded in and man with knob still hanging out & a couple of mates were hoiked out. They were only ejected, not arrested and as we left they were standing looking for us .... we gave them the slip.
If any of or mid-aged people recognise themselves in this then

I'm middle aged and was probably at that game, but I'd have been in my early teens. I'd certainly remember if I'd been ejeculated by the cops.bobo the clown wrote:I went on a very, very cold Boxing Day in 1977 or '78. Won, I think 3-0. Allardyce was involved.

... & meanwhile, Eagles has landed. He'll be signed in time to greet us on Saturday. Given how long Coyle & Freedman took to believe a player was match fit h shouldn't possibly be able to walk across the car park.

2-0 win that one Bobo, iirc. As far as I can tell, it was the last time we won there in the league. Certainly, in the dozen or so times I've seen us there, we've never managed it

Re: Oh I do like to be above the....... - Blackpool (A) 22/1
There are several versions as to what his last words actually were, and the only people that truly knew were those that bore witness to them. How come you're so certain that they weren't his last words anyway? I mean, I know you're getting on a bit, like....Montreal Wanderer wrote:Certainly not his last words but he did say it when ask to approve the addition of Regis to the town name in 1928.
