New Sheriff, but he's still a villain - Forest (A) 21/02/15

Happenstance sees me in possession of a ticket for this, but it's by no means certain I will be able to make the trip.

Fate hands us an early opportunity to avenge some of Freedman's misdemeanours.

Well, they've scored 10 goals in the last three games - we've conceded nine.

I reckon a nil-nil draw is on the cards.

Still umming and arring as to whether to go to this or not. I'll ponder it over the course of the week.

I honestly think we'll get battered and I haven't predicted that for a long time.

After the display against a good side like Watford? I think not; rather the reverse....

Also mulling over a trip down there. We certainly got battered last season, but I think we'll start to pick up again soon, starting with this one. Having Craig Davies back would make a huge difference.

At least we know they won't come at us.

We could play five up front.

Id drop alf on the basid that craig or Emile should make the ball stick a bit better. Seemed to work at wednesday and I'd class forest in thst bracket of teams who wont go down or up.

I'd fecking love to do dougies mob. I think we might as well. Mills in for Wheater to organise the defence.

Right backs a worry...i'd be dropiping janko whatever, but getting a specialist right back in and playing vela in front would be my suggestion, mcnaughton back in or even threlkeld.

Players with points to prove - Vela, Craig Davies, Lonergan, Clough...

Aye, well, we're conceding a bag load of goals at the moment and, although we attacked well against Watford, according to some that attack might get changed around for this game. I'm not just not all that hopeful about this one, which is unusual for me. Just a feeling to be honest.

Is there not a way for us to play all three?

I don't think Clough is an out-and-out striker so maybe we could have him in behind the front two?

Don't be facetious.

Ps. five up front worked for Watford at the weekend... :D

That's what I was thinking. Certainly wouldn't want to drop either of them. I'd be happy to have the option of Davies from the bench. Always good to have the option of a bit of physical presence up there. Was massively missed at Rotherham for example.

Because of our goal scoring/conceding ability! My prediction is 5-4 to the Whites!

Forest conceded 4 against Blackpool last time out. This game could be anything. I will go for 2-2.

Having either Craig Davies or Emil Heskey fit and available to be used-as-needed is a real plus. That said, no way drop the Clough -Alf combination. The point about Vela getting the waltzer treatement from a pacy winger means a bit of thinking how best to use Janko, because we need to use him whilst we have him, but he needs to be forward not defending. We really have a decent squad right now when everybody's fit and N.L must be chuffed he can move players around a bit. Our biggest worry is why our defence is so prone to leaking goals. Last couple of game's we've come from behind early on, but when we get in front we can't stay there. I've noticed a few times that sloppy passing in mid-field or up front lets the opposition strike quickly when our defence is forward (them not being exactly the greyhounds of the division).

Against Watford we took pressure off the defence quite a lot by attacking ourselves, but keeping the opposition out is our Achilles heel. We've had games in our hands only to finish up getting nothing. That's a worry. Bannan certainly makes a difference but although both us and Watford scored goals, the methods were entirely different. Their passing and possession, though hard to admit, was superior to ours, and in that our midfield did a decent job of harrying, but too much went on around our box and it always seemed just a matter of time before they scored. They did, and all our hard work in scoring three goals was for nothing in the end. Midfield is the key factor. It's all getting better but there's still a bit of work to be done. ( feel free to insert a "no-shxt-Sherlock here, at will, but I thought I'd say it anyway. )
